Under the general guidance of the Corporate Security Manager, the Corporate Security Specialist plays a key role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone who works, visits, or participates in recreational activities on City of Winnipeg properties. This is achieved by assisting in identifying, developing, and delivering a broad range of security services, including security consultations, threat risk assessments and audits, project planning review and support, security investigations, operational oversight of security guards, and staff training for various departments as needed.
Additionally, the Corporate Security Specialist actively participates in emergency responses, representing the division as required or contributing to the broader emergency management response framework.
As the Corporate Security Specialist, your duties will include:
- Identify, Develop, and Deliver a Broad Range of Security Services
- Conduct Security Consultation Services
- Assist in Providing Operational Oversight of Contract Security Guards
- Conduct Security Threat Risk Assessments, Audits, and Make Recommendations
- Assist in Providing Advice Related to Security Programs, New Build Construction, or Renovation Projects
- Conduct Security Investigations
- Provide Security Staff Training to Departments
Your education and qualifications include:
- A post-secondary education in security management, emergency management, Police Foundations/Public Safety and/or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPP (Certified Protection Qualified) and CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) is an asset
- Minimum 5 years¿ experience in a management role within the law enforcement, security and /or emergency response sectors, involving building, public and/or personal security with the ability to apply security management, emergency management and preparedness principles.
- Leadership experience with a focus on teamwork,
community and public service.
- Ability to develop, review, prepare and deliver training material and programs.
- Ability to provide sound decisions and recommendations related to security requirements
- Ability to interpret and administer public safety policies, procedures and strategies.
- Ability to lead/facilitate working groups, conduct training and presentations.
- Ability to objectively investigate incidents, take witness statements, analyze information, develop conclusions and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence related to organizational, public safety and/or security issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate security requirements to all levels of the organization.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal legislation, guidelines, programs and/or statutes reflecting the security and emergency management sectors.
- Knowledge of physical security technology and applications is an asset.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office and its applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Conditions of employment:
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid
- Must pass and maintain a Level 2 Security Clearance from the Winnipeg Police Service.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver¿s License
- Must provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City¿s Transportation Policy.
