Responsibilities

This employment opportunity is restricted to all Nunavut Inuit.

An eligibility list may be created to fill current and future vacancies across the department in all communities.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Reporting to the Correctional Supervisor, the Correctional Caseworker is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of clients within a designated area pursuant to established Department/Division/Facility policies, procedures and standards. This position is also responsible for case management and for performing other specialized duties within a correctional facility as required.

Correctional

Caseworkers rotate through designated posts that report to several departments within the facility. This position is subject to rotational shift which is a condition of employment.

The Correctional





Caseworker will perform case management functions and facilitates core programs for clients within the designated area of responsibility; Train/evaluate/instructing clients in a variety of work, recreation and leisure activities, monitoring the protected and correct use of equipment, to enhance skills and development meaningful work habits, providing performance related feedback to the inmate; Performs other duties specific to a particular position as provided in the post functional in local Standing Orders, and as from time to time amended; Provide direction, support, counselling, and referrals to clients.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent (Pass, GED, etc.). Successful completion of Corrections Career Development (JIBC 1, 2, 3) or equivalent; Training in First Aid + CPR certification within probation period; Class 5 driver’s license.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
