SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Curriculum Advisor (Inland), actively contributes to the development of initiatives in support of the CSB iiyiyiuiyihtiwin Research and Development strategy, that has the end goal of equipping the CSB to implementing high-quality iiyiyui academic models and frameworks that support student success, provide language and culture expertise across CSB, and enable inspired teaching.

Reporting to the Coordinator of iiyiyiu chiskutimaachaawin Department, the Curriculum Advisor provides guidance and support in the development of guidelines to some iR&D; professional and support staff, and works directly with Youth and Adult Education sectors, as well other areas of the CSB on the centralization of language and culture teaching and learning.

iiyiyiuiyihtiwin is Cree ways of knowing, doing, and being. iR&D; is central to the CSB Strategic Action Plan. It involves the establishment of the iiyiyiuiyihtiwin Research and Development Department. The department encompasses a variety of offerings from providing guidelines, to developing CSB academic models, to remaining abreast of leading practices of indigenous language in education. iR&D; will eventually allow for increased opportunities to return to iiyiyiu ways of being.

iiyiyiuiyihtiwin Research and Development advances school reform by increasing equity and access to educational opportunities, improving effectiveness and productivity of teachers and administrators, providing student-centered learning to ensure college and career readiness for all students, and recognizing teachers as education designers.

The Curriculum Advisor (Inland) leads by example, fosters a spirit of teamwork, engages employees and facilitates a workplace culture in keeping with the CSB organizational values.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Departmental Responsibilities

- Collaborate with the Coordinator of iiyiyiu chiskutimaachaawin in the development and execution of the departmental strategic initiatives and annual action plan for iR&D;
- Participate in the implementation of departmental initiatives, processes, internal procedures and policies, and ensure monitoring,



as well as compliance in line with key performance measures
- Implement and maintain up-to-date efficient and effective systems, databases/ files and administrative standards that respond to the needs of the department while supporting the overall organization and ensuring alignment with legal and governance requirements
- Prepare and analyze select reports and circulate, as appropriate
- Establish and maintain effective communications and relations within his/her sector, across the CSB and with external stakeholders
- Provide pertinent information to and respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders, as required

Role-Specific Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities:

Main Tasks

- Contributes to the development of iiyiyiu academic models and other frameworks that will inform the work of curriculum developers across all sectors of the CSB
- Contributes to the development of practical guidelines, protocols, and standards for curriculum developers and educational / professional consultants
- Contributes to the development of CSB’s own models for all subjects based on the iiyiyiu ways of knowing, doing, and being
- Contributes to the valuing of the differences of iiyiyiu language and culture teaching and learning in order to ensure an authentic experience
- Identifies gaps and contributes to the development of language and culture resources and projects.
- Contributes to building processes and sharing iiyiyiu/iinuu language and culture resource materials across CSB
- Remains abreast of leading practices in the field of Indigenous language and education
- Develops and maintains network and may represent CSB/team in this area

Responsibilities

- Review and validate curriculum in light of iiyiyiuiyihtiwin strategies
- Guide curriculum work and provide guidance and support to future curriculum writing and writers




- Review and validate curriculum resources and development
- Contribute to the implementation of iiyiyiuiyihtiwin strategy of the SAP

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification

- Advanced knowledge of iiyiyiuiyihtiwin (Cree ways of knowing, doing, and being)
- Bachelor’s degree and a valid Quebec teaching license (brevet) or other Canadian teaching qualification or similar
- Master’s degree preferred

Experience

- 3 years’ experience in curriculum work

Language

- Highly proficient oral and written Cree
- Highly proficient oral and written English

Assets

- French is an asset
- Cree linguistics proficiency

KEY COMPETENCIES (SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

- Knowledge of iiyiyiuwaayitimuwin and iiyiuiyihtiwin (Ways of Living in Knowing and Doing)
- Knowledge of Indigenous learning strategies and pedagogy is required
- Knowledge?of related areas in?instructional?design in iiyiyiuwaayitimuwin (ways of knowing), iiyiuiyihtiwin (ways of doing), uutaach kaa ispaayichi ispaayich chaakwaan (history), and iiyiyiuimuwin (language)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across all levels and functions and to develop solid organizational knowledge
- Able to manage complex reporting relationships
- Adapts and responds positively to changing priorities in role and organization
- Ability to initiate, plan and manage projects
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and collaborating skills
- Well-developed listening, communication and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated judgment and analytical skills
- Knowledge of iiyiyiu aschii, CSB organization, stakeholders, and processes is an asset
- Experience with Microsoft platforms is an asset
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Research skills such as undertaking literature reviews, online searches, compiling information, analyzing data and information, and drawing relevant conclusions
- Ability to develop solid working relationships internally and externally and to develop effective networks of contacts within education / First Nations fields for future collaboration
- Able to present on iiyiyiuiyihtiwin

Other/ working conditions

- Travel is required, typically across iiyiyiu aschii and occasionally to Montreal or similar. .
