Director of Finance
Doctors Vision Group (DVG)
London, Ontario | Full-Time | On-Site
About Doctors Vision Group
Doctors Vision Group is a growing network of optometry clinics across Southwestern Ontario. Today, DVG operates 14 clinic locations, with additional growth planned before the end of 2026.
As our organization continues to expand, we are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to take ownership of our finance and accounting function and build the financial infrastructure needed to support our next stage of growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role. We are looking for someone who can move comfortably between the details of the accounting cycle and the bigger financial picture, ensuring our books are accurate and our obligations are met, while providing leadership with the financial insight, forecasting and systems needed to make better decisions.
The Role
Reporting to the COO, the Director of Finance will have overall responsibility for the financial operations of Doctors Vision Group and its related entities.
You will own the full accounting cycle, lead month-end and year-end processes, oversee payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable, manage tax and regulatory filings, prepare financial reporting packages, monitor cash flow and debt obligations, and work closely with our lenders and external accountants.
Just as importantly, you will help us build for the future.
As DVG continues to grow, you will assess our existing accounting systems, processes and controls and lead the selection and implementation of the systems and financial infrastructure required to support a larger, increasingly sophisticated multi-location organization.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own the full accounting cycle across DVG clinics and related corporate entities.
- Lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
- Prepare consolidated and entity-level financial reporting packages for management.
- Review financial results against budget, forecast and prior periods and identify significant trends and variances.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure appropriate accounting treatment, reconciliations, accruals and intercompany transactions.
- Maintain strong financial controls, documentation and accounting policies across the organization.
- Coordinate year-end activities and work directly with external accountants on financial statements and corporate tax filings.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Develop annual budgets and maintain rolling financial forecasts.
- Prepare short- and long-term cash flow forecasts to support operating and capital decisions.
- Translate financial results into clear, actionable information for senior leadership.
- Analyze clinic-level and consolidated financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve profitability, productivity and cash generation.
- Develop financial models to support new clinics, acquisitions, capital investments and other strategic initiatives.
- Help establish and monitor financial KPIs across the organization.
Treasury & Banking
- Manage the organization's cash position and provide regular visibility into current and projected liquidity.
- Maintain relationships with banks, lenders and other financial partners.
- Monitor debt facilities, equipment financing and other financial obligations.
- Prepare lender reporting packages and monitor compliance with financial covenants.
- Maintain debt schedules and forecast principal, interest and other financing requirements.
- Support financing, refinancing and acquisition-related activities as DVG continues to grow.
Payroll
- Oversee and/or process payroll for clinic and corporate employees.
- Manage doctor compensation calculations and payment processes.
- Ensure payroll reconciliations, remittances and year-end reporting are completed accurately and on time.
- Work with operations and HR to ensure compensation changes and payroll information are properly reflected in financial records.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Oversee accounts payable processes, vendor payments and expense management.
- Maintain appropriate approval processes and financial controls.
- Oversee accounts receivable and ensure outstanding balances are actively monitored and resolved.
- Monitor working capital and identify opportunities to improve cash conversion.
- Ensure vendor statements, credit balances and other outstanding items are reconciled appropriately.
Tax, Compliance & External Reporting
- Oversee required CRA filings, remittances and other financial reporting obligations.
- Ensure HST, payroll remittances and other applicable government filings are completed accurately and on time.
- Coordinate with external accountants and advisors on corporate tax, year-end reporting and other accounting matters.
- Maintain appropriate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure the organization remains prepared for lender reviews, audits and other external financial reviews.
Systems, Processes & Scalability A major priority for this role will be ensuring DVG's financial infrastructure can support continued growth. The Director of Finance will:
- Conduct a comprehensive review of our existing accounting and finance systems, workflows and controls.
- Identify gaps, manual processes and areas that will become increasingly difficult to manage as the organization grows.
- Evaluate accounting/ERP, expense management, payroll, reporting and related financial technology solutions.
- Lead the selection and implementation of future finance systems where appropriate.
- Improve automation and integration between clinic operations and the finance function.
- Standardize financial processes across locations and entities.
- Establish scalable policies,
controls and reporting structures that can accommodate new clinics and acquisitions without unnecessarily increasing administrative complexity.
- Create a finance function capable of supporting a significantly larger organization.
What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who combines solid technical accounting knowledge with commercial judgment and a willingness to be hands-on.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- CPA designation.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, internal controls and financial reporting.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial analysis.
- Experience managing banking relationships, debt facilities and financial covenant reporting.
- Strong understanding of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and CRA reporting requirements.
- Experience working with external accountants, lenders and other professional advisors.
- Experience evaluating or implementing accounting, ERP or financial reporting systems.
- Experience working in a multi-location and/or multi-entity organization is an asset.
- Experience in healthcare, professional services, retail or another multi-site operating environment would be an asset.
- Experience supporting acquisitions or integrating newly acquired businesses would be an asset.
The Person We're Looking For This role will suit someone who enjoys both building and operating.
You should be comfortable preparing a cash flow forecast or reviewing a debt covenant in the morning and investigating a reconciliation or payroll discrepancy that afternoon.
You are someone who
- Takes ownership and follows issues through to resolution.
- Has a high standard for accuracy and financial discipline.
- Understands that good finance teams don't simply report what happened, they help the business understand why it happened and what to do next.
- Can explain financial information clearly to operational leaders who may not have accounting backgrounds.
- Looks for opportunities to simplify, automate and improve processes.
- Can establish appropriate financial controls without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Is comfortable working in a growing organization where processes and systems are continuing to evolve.
- Thinks beyond today's requirements and builds systems that will continue to work as the organization gets larger.
Why Join Doctors Vision Group? This is an opportunity to take ownership of the finance function within a successful and rapidly growing healthcare organization.
With 14 clinics today and additional growth already planned, the Director of Finance will have the opportunity to shape how DVG manages its financial operations for years to come.
Rather than inheriting a finished finance function, you will have the mandate to build the financial foundation for DVG's next stage of growth, improving reporting, strengthening forecasting and controls, modernizing our systems and giving leadership better information to operate and grow the business.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on both the day-to-day financial performance of the organization and its long-term direction, and grow with the organization.
