Education Program Coordinator

Position Summary

Serpent River First Nation is seeking a dedicated and community-minded Education Program Coordinator to join the Department of Education. Reporting to the Director of Education, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering education-based programs that support the growth, wellbeing, and success of children and youth.

This position provides direct oversight of the After School Program, PA Day Programming, and Summer Day Camp, ensuring activities are safe, engaging, culturally relevant, and responsive to community needs.

The Education Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with SRFN departments, including Health and Culture, to provide programming focused on academic support, healthy living, wellness, recreation, Anishinaabemowin language learning, and cultural teachings. The Coordinator will also supervise part-time junior staff and assist with family and community wellness initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, coordinate, and deliver meaningful education programming with measurable outcomes.
- Plan and facilitate After School Program activities that include homework assistance, healthy living, wellness education, cultural teachings, and Anishinaabemowin.
- Organize and provide healthy snacks for participants in the After School Program.
- Develop and lead an inclusive, safe, and engaging Summer Day Camp program.
- Support family and community programming that promotes belonging, wellness, and positive relationships.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff during program delivery.
- Collect program data and support reporting requirements to measure success and outcomes.
- Assist with program budget planning and monitoring.
- Ensure participant safety and respond appropriately to incidents,



accidents, illness, or suspected abuse.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- College diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Services, or a related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children and youth.
- Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities.
- Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and facilitate programs and events.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a dynamic team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) or equivalent approaches is considered an asset.
- Ability to speak and understand Anishinaabemowin is an asset.

Requirements

- Explicit Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.
- Satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
