Amtech Aeronautical Limited is hiring an Electrical Engineer to join a small team supporting defence R&D; contracting projects involving autonomous robotics, custom electro-mechanical systems, PCB design, control logic, hardware design, embedded software development, and prototype system development.

This is a full-time in office position in Medicine Hat Alberta. Most of the work will be in office with occasional onsite work at client locations for field testing or integration activities. This client work is often conducted close to Medicine Hat and rarely requires overnight travel.

The role is well suited to someone who can work independently, take ownership of technical work, and learn quickly across recent domains. The successful candidate will support several projects as part of a small team, while also being trusted to lead individual efforts as one of the primary Electrical engineers under mentorship and guidance.

Our work often involves developing research concepts with our contracting partners across Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1–7, from early-stage ideas and proof-of-concept development through to integrated prototypes demonstrated in relevant environments. As a result, the role offers broad exposure to a wide range of electrical engineering design and integration challenges and is a strong fit for someone who enjoys self-directed learning, practical problem solving, and building real-world systems.

What you’ll work on:





- Support development of advanced R&D; projects for defence and related applications
- Contribute to the design, integration, testing, and deployment of small to large militarized, robotic and autonomous systems including uncrewed air vehicles.
- Assist with embedded hardware and software development for a variety of custom systems including defence system equipment, Chemical, Biological, and Radiological (CBR) sensors, air sampling, data acquisition, and identification equipment.
- Work on prototype payloads, unmanned systems, and experimental sensing platforms.
- Participate in laboratory testing, field trials, debugging, and iterative system improvement.
- Help translate customer and program requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation, reporting, and project execution including test plans, electrical schematics, operator guides, and other required documentation.

Relevant background may include:

- Embedded system programming and hardware development
- Experience with PLC hardware and software programming
- Custom PCB design and testing
- Robotics / autonomous systems
- Sensor integration including CBR detectors




- Experience with UAV/UGV setup and programming
- Experience working with large uncrewed vehicles in a safe manner (Ground or Air)
- Python, C++, Linux, and hands-on system development
- Command and control system integration

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field with a focus on defence R&D; projects.
- Canadian citizen
- Eligible to obtain a Level II Secret security clearance
- Able to work effectively in a small group

Strong assets:

- Existing Level I or II security clearances
- Experience with real-world hardware and software embedded system development and testing
- Experience working with, selecting, and integrating various sensors, actuators, and other components onto embedded platforms
- Hands on field experience with electrical / instrumentation design, installation, and troubleshooting including soldering and electrical troubleshooting
- Experience in data analysis and reduction
- Understanding of manufacturing processes related to electronic hardware production in a defense context.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems through debugging techniques across hardware and firmware layers.

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
