Parr Metal Fabricators is an established custom metal fabrication company that has been serving industrial customers since 1976. We specialize in custom fabrication including storage tanks, pressure vessels, smoke stacks, pipe spools, ducting, specialty projects, forming, rolling, welding, and miscellaneous industrial fabrication.
We are currently seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to join our team.
This is a hands-on position for someone with a strong metal fabrication background who is comfortable working directly with customers, shop personnel, suppliers, subcontractors, and qualified engineers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating and managing multiple custom fabrication projects from initial quotation through completion.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare take-offs, estimates, and quotations for current fabrication projects and repair work involving ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Review customer requirements, drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Prepare accurate, professional quotations for customers
- Manage projects from award through completion
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with technical specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements
- Work closely with customers and shop personnel throughout the project lifecycle
- Interpret assembly drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications
- Purchase materials required for assigned projects
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and outside professional engineers when required
- Manage multiple projects of varying sizes simultaneously in a fast-paced fabrication environment
- Monitor project schedules, costs, materials, risks, and overall progress
- Assist with limited office administration coverage during vacation periods when required
- Occasionally meet with customers outside the facility
This position is focused primarily on projects completed within our fabrication shop. There is no regular site work, and out-of-city travel is rare.
What We’re Looking For
- 5 or more years of relevant experience in fabrication estimating, project management, metal fabrication, or a closely related position
- Strong knowledge of metal fabrication and welding processes
- Excellent mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication, assembly, and shop drawings
- Experience preparing estimates, take-offs, budgets, and customer quotations
- Solid organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with budgeting, negotiation, scheduling, purchasing, and risk assessment
- Ability to work effectively with customers, tradespeople, suppliers, engineers, and management
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Education & Technical Background Preference will be given to candidates with a combination of technical education and practical fabrication experience, including:
- Engineering Technology diploma from Red River College Polytechnic or another recognized institution
- Accredited skilled trade certification
- Significant related fabrication or estimating experience
Knowledge or experience with CWB, ASME, API, Made Safe, SMACNA, welding codes, fabrication standards,
and weld testing would be considered an asset. Experience using CAD, Autodesk Inventor, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word would also be considered an asset.
Parr will be moving to a brand-new manufacturing facility in northern Winnipeg after 51 years at the same location during the fall/winter 2027.
Work Schedule
Monday to Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
40 hours per week.
Compensation
Approximately $70,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
