Family Support Coordinator (FSC) – Sharon Van Cleave Child Care Centre

Start Date: September 27, 2026 / potential for negotiation

Job Length: 37.5 hours per week – annual work schedule coincides with SPSD school calendar year (10 Months)

Wage/Salary: $21.41- $29.28/ hr

REPORTS TO: Sharon Van Cleave Child Care Centre Program Director

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE:

Education and/or experience in social work or youth care work

ECE certification (minimum level I)

Current First Aid and CPR Level C

Valid Driver’s License

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

PREFERRED TRAINING AND KNOWLEDGE:

ECE Level III certification

Nobody's Perfect Facilitator Training

Housing Navigation experience/knowledge

Experience/knowledge working with the CRA (e.g. child tax)

Mental Heath and Addictions in youth training

Trauma Informed Care Facilitator training

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

The primary function of the Family Support Coordinator (FSC) is to promote the health and wellbeing of pregnant women and people, infants and children (0 – 6 years) and their parents and caregivers. This position provides support to all SSCCS locations. Overarching activities are as follows:

- Supporting student parents to stay in school and to achieve desired academic outcomes/graduation
- Providing holistic support to parents by coordinating programming and resources and using funding effectively to meet the individual needs of each family
- Supporting the Early Childhood Educators working in the program by providing them with appropriate and relevant information about the families and by working alongside the educators with the children





This position is made available through funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Roles, responsibilities and required activities are set out in the agreement for funding and are listed as follows:

- Share literacy resources with families throughout the year
- Offer lunch and learns on relevant topics two times per week
- Offer First Aid/CPR training once per year
- Offer car seat clinic once per year
- Offer Nobody’s Perfect Parent Program once per year
- Offer Navera – Navigating Parenting Teen Edition once per year
- Offer offsite family engagement outings to families once a month
- Support families with access to developmental and medical services when/if necessary
- Coordinate dental varnishing/immunizations 2 times per year
- Coordinate with external partners to meet the needs of each family
- Have one on one meetings with families to create goals/discuss challenges etc.

Additional responsibilities for this role are:

Families:

- Provide families with access to healthy food, hygiene products, clothing, basic household items etc.
- Provide families with information on child development
- Assist parents with developing skills for healthy parenting
- Support parents through crisis with active listening and referrals to relevant external professionals/resources
- Plan networking opportunities for parents that promote healthy peer engagement
- Collaborate with school staff to coordinate support for student parents




- Support student parents with developing transportation solutions to and from school
- Support student parents with transition from high school to post-secondary, work force, etc.

Children:

- Observe children and document necessary information
- Support program directors and educators with the Ages & Stages Questionnaire
- Support the implementation of Personal Program Plans for children with diverse needs

Educators:

- Support the ECE staff in their work with the children
- Within the bounds of confidentiality, share information about the children and families with the educators
- Provide resources for staff as required
- Support the centre with meeting childcare ratios when needed
- Assist during transitions, nap, etc., when needed

Administration:

- Maintain accurate and current records of programming stats
- Keep detailed checklists/notes of daily interactions with parents throughout the year to assist with data input for CAPC and TSS activity and fiscal reporting requirements
- Follow budgetary guidelines as set by SSCCS and outside funders
- Ensure programs and services are developed to meet the Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives of the organization
- Review teen student parents’ attendance records weekly to ensure that parents are attending classes and work together with teens and school personnel if attendance is a concern

Other duties as assigned. Job Types: Permanent, Fixed term contract

Pay: $21.41-$29.28 per hour
