As a proud member of the Smith and Long family of companies, Gridshield CSI is an industry leader in critical power systems. We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Field Service Technician to deliver high-level preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, commissioning, and diagnostic testing for mission-critical power systems. In this essential role, you will be dispatched across the GTA, working directly with clients to maintain the peak performance, reliability, and safety of their critical power equipment, including UPS systems, battery banks, and DC plants.
As a Field Service Technician, you will oversee essential technical field activities, including advanced power quality analysis, thermal imaging, calibrations, and comprehensive field reporting. Your expertise and attention to detail will directly safeguard our clients' continuous operations and strengthen long-standing service partnerships.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preventative Maintenance & Servicing: Execute comprehensive preventative maintenance routines, diagnostic testing, and servicing on critical backup power and UPS systems.
- Emergency Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control faults across low, medium, and high-voltage power equipment, providing clear, detailed field service reports.
- Commissioning & Installations: Perform startups, installations, and commissioning of new power systems,
ensuring complete compliance with engineering specifications and safety codes.
- Specialized Testing & Calibration: Conduct infrared thermal imaging, power quality analysis, equipment calibration, and performance optimization, documenting all analytical findings for clients.
- DC Plants & Battery Management: Service and maintain DC plants, flooded battery systems, and VRLA batteries, utilizing specialized testing and monitoring tools.
- Controls & Communications: Integrate and troubleshoot communication protocols, including Modbus and SNMP interfaces, for real-time equipment monitoring and building integration.
- Technical Documentation & Schematics: Read and interpret single-line drawings, electrical schematics, and manufacturer manuals to accurately document all site findings and customer recommendations.
- Client Service & Daily Dispatch: Represent Gridshield CSI professionally on client sites, coordinating efficiently with centralized dispatch to meet strict response times and service level agreements.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience servicing and troubleshooting Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and critical backup power infrastructure.
- Education & Credentials: Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology/Electrical Field, or a recognized electrical trade qualification.
- Technical & Manufacturer Training: Factory training or direct experience with Toshiba G9000 UPS platforms and PowerShield Battery Monitoring systems is strongly preferred.
- Field Readiness:
Proven track record in field service with dispatch across varied commercial and industrial client sites, supported by a valid Driver’s Licence and a clean driving abstract.
- Systems Proficiency: In-depth familiarity with low/medium/high-voltage systems, DC plants, flooded/VRLA battery maintenance, thermal imaging tools, and communication networks (Modbus, SNMP).
- Communication & Professionalism: Excellent English communication skills (both verbal and written) for professional client interactions, accurate technical documentation, and transparent field reporting.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Wage: $36.00 per hour (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday schedule).
