POSITION OVERVIEW The Floor Supervisor plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our retail food co-operative, providing day-to-day direction, guidance and support to Department Managers, Retail Associates, Cashiers, and other floor-level team members during their shift.

Working closely with the Store Manager, the Floor Supervisor ensures a smooth, welcoming, and efficient shopping experience for members and customers alike. This position provides frontline leadership, supports staff, maintains store standards, and upholds the co-operative's values of community, sustainability, and member service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Shift Leadership & Operations

● Open and/or close the store in accordance with established procedures

● Supervise floor staff, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to standard of the franchise program and to members satisfaction

● Fill in for department managers when they are not on shift or supplement when departments require additional support, with Deli/HMR being high priority

● Serve as the first point of contact for staff questions, escalating to management when necessary

● Monitor customer flow while maintaining staffing coverage accordingly

● Maintain a secure, clean, and organized store environment at all times

Customer & Member Service

● Model exceptional customer service and co-op values on the sales floor

● Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a professional and solutions-oriented manner

● Support member engagement initiatives and ensure members feel welcomed and valued

● Assist with member-owner questions related to purchases,



policies, and equity

● Responsible for member marketing for the cooperative through social media and other approved sources, including creation and maintenance of a marketing plan and social media schedule

Merchandising & Inventory

● Ensure shelves are always stocked and retail floor is clean and “ready for business”

● Monitor inventory and stocking levels and address any issues related to under/over ordering or supplier fulfillment

● Monitor product freshness, managing expired or damaged goods, and communicate restocking needs

● Assist with receiving deliveries, verifying orders, and stocking product in accordance with franchise standards

● Utilize and maintain consistent usage of retail practices and inventory management systems/ processes.

● Support signage accuracy and promotional display setups

● Support profitability standards with the food division

● Ensure Food Safety is being maintained at a high level for an impeccable member experience

Staff Support & Communication

● Provide on-the-job guidance and coaching to team members when required

● Communicate shift priorities, updates, and concerns to incoming supervisors or management





● Participate in staff meetings and contribute to a positive team culture

● Assist in onboarding and training new employees as directed

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

● Minimum 2 years of retail or food service experience

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills

● Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure

● Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professional conduct

● Ability to lift 50lbs

● Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including the ability to effectively use a variety of software applications, learn new systems quickly, and leverage digital tools to support efficient business operations.

● Availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred

● Previous supervisory or team lead experience

● Experience in a co-operative, or community-based retail environment

● Food safety certification (e.g., Food Handler's Certificate)

● Experience with food preparation, including hot meals

● Meat-cutting experience

● Basic knowledge of inventory management or point-of-sale systems

● Working knowledge or experience with marketing principles and social media management

● Familiarity with co-operative principles and values

WAGE

Starting at $19.75 per hour.
