Position Title: Food & Beverage Supervisor

Department: Food & Beverage

Location: Halifax Downtown, NS

Reports To: Food & Beverage Services Manager

Employment Type: Hourly Full-Time

General Overview:

The Food & Beverage Supervisor leads daily restaurant, bar, and banquet operations while delivering exceptional guest service. This role supports the Food & Beverage Manager in achieving service, guest satisfaction, revenue, and team development goals. The ideal candidate is proactive, guest-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide on-shift leadership and supervision for front-of-house Food & Beverage associates across restaurant, lounge, bar, and banquet operations.

· Lead by example to foster a positive, professional, and guest-focused work environment while supporting employee engagement and team development.

· Conduct onboarding, on-the-job training, coaching, and performance development for new and existing associates, ensuring compliance with Marriott brand standards, service standards, food safety requirements, and responsible beverage service practices.

· Facilitate ongoing training initiatives, support cross-training opportunities, monitor employee development progress, and provide regular performance feedback.

· Ensure smooth day-to-day operations through effective scheduling support, shift assignments, attendance tracking, payroll review assistance, and daily opening and closing procedures.

· Deliver exceptional guest experiences by greeting guests professionally, responding to service concerns promptly, and ensuring food and beverage quality consistently meets or exceeds expectations.

· Manage reservations, waitlists, seating arrangements, and guest preferences using OpenTable or similar reservation management systems.

· Identify and promote upselling opportunities across food, beverage, banquet, and hotel offerings while coaching associates to enhance guest satisfaction and revenue generation.

· Maintain cleanliness, organization,



and operational readiness throughout all Food & Beverage service areas.

· Support inventory management activities including inventory counts, variance investigations, cost-control measures, billing accuracy, and month-end reporting requirements.

· Coordinate with kitchen, conference services, and other hotel departments to ensure seamless operations, service consistency, and successful event execution.

· Support banquet operations including event setup, service execution, event breakdown, and the accurate implementation of Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and event specifications.

· Ensure compliance with hotel policies, brand standards, food safety regulations, liquor licensing requirements, and all applicable operating procedures.

· Utilize departmental technology systems including Agilysys POS, OpenTable, Microsoft Office applications, and hotel management software to support operational effectiveness.

· Maintain the security and confidentiality of guest information, company property, keys, and operational records.

· Participate in departmental meetings, hotel initiatives, promotional activities, and other projects as assigned.

Other Abilities, Skills and Competencies:

· Minimum 2 years of Food & Beverage experience, preferably in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

· Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, and leadership skills.

· Comprehensive knowledge of Food & Beverage operations, including restaurant, lounge, bar, banquet,



and guest service standards.

· Strong understanding of cocktails, beer, wine, spirits, wine service, and responsible beverage service practices.

· Experience using OpenTable or similar reservation management platforms.

· Proficiency with POS systems; experience with Agilysys POS is considered an asset.

· Working knowledge of labour management practices, scheduling, attendance administration, and payroll processes.

· Basic financial acumen, including food cost, beverage cost, labour cost management, inventory controls, and variance analysis.

· Experience supporting banquet and event operations within a hotel setting is considered an asset.

· Experience working with hotel property management systems is preferred.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

· Responsible Beverage Service certification required, or willingness to obtain.

· Hospitality diploma, post-secondary education, or equivalent industry experience is considered an asset.

· Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.

· Experience with Canva or similar design tools is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

· Fast-paced environment that may require bending, kneeling, and multi-tasking.

· Schedule varies based on business needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information:

Shifts: Flexibility to work various shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Availability: Full-Time: 30–40 hours/week

Start Date: September 2026

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.08-$22.08 per hour
