The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining a robust safety culture focused on prevention and compliance. This role ensures the implementation of health and safety policies, educates employees on safe practices, and continuously improves safety performance across the organization.
Responsibilities
Field Presence and Culture Building
- Maintain a strong presence in the field to foster a culture of prevention and proactive safety behaviors through coaching and leading indicator activities.
Policy Implementation and Compliance
- Develop and coordinate health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to corporate standards and occupational health regulations.
Training and Education
- Educate and coach employees and managers on protected work behaviors and occupational health practices.
Incident Investigation and Corrective Actions
- Lead and participate in incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are tracked, communicated, and implemented.
Program Management and Improvement
- Manage and maintain various health and safety programs, including Compliance Audits, Safety Meetings, and Toolbox talks, while analyzing safety KPI statistics to recommend improvements.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary education in Safety or a related discipline.
- Additional certifications or advanced degrees in Occupational Health & Safety is considered an asset
Experience
- 2 or more years in a role related to Occupational Health and Safety.
- Experience in the construction, heavy lift, and heavy haul industries, along with change management experience is considered an asset
Certifications
- Commitment to complete New Brunswick Construction Safety Association’s COR Training.
- Relevant certifications in Occupational Health & Safety is considered an asset.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations in the Atlantic Provinces.
- Demonstrated experience in creating and implementing safety training and programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a quick-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various sites in the Atlantic Provinces.
- Experience leading organizational change in safety practices.
