Reporting to the HR Director, Corporate, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing day-to-day HR support to the Ottawa hotel and restaurant operations. Working closely with operational leaders and employees, the incumbent acts as a trusted advisor on employee relations matters while supporting recruitment, health and safety, employee engagement, and other HR initiatives.

The HR Generalist plays a key role in fostering positive employee experience. This position works closely with the Hotel General Manager through a dotted-line reporting relationship to ensure HR strategies and priorities align with operational needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee Relations

- Serve as the primary HR contact for day-to-day employee labour relations matters within the Ottawa hotel and restaurant operations.
- Provide guidance and support to managers regarding performance management, attendance management, coaching, and disciplinary processes.
- Assist in conducting workplace investigations and resolving employee concerns in a fair and timely manner.
- Provide guidance and coaching to managers to enhance leadership effectiveness and employee engagement.
- Promote positive employee/management relationships and contribute to a respectful workplace culture.

Recruitment &

- Talent Acquisition

- Partner with hiring managers to conduct candidate screening, interviews, reference checks, and employment offers.
- Coordinate onboarding activities and support the successful integration of new employees.




- Participate in employer branding and local recruitment initiatives.

Health &

- Safety

- Support the implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs and policies.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and activities.
- Assist with workplace incident investigations, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.

Culture, Engagement &

- Employee Experience

- Support employee engagement, recognition, wellness initiatives.
- Assist with the development and execution of employee events and culture-building activities.
- Encourage manager participation in employee engagement initiatives and surveys.
- Help foster a positive workplace culture aligned with Gray Collection's values.

HR Operations &

- Compliance

- Maintain employee files and HR documentation in accordance with company standards.
- Assist employees and managers with work permit applications and renewals, when required.
- Monitor compliance with Ontario employment legislation, health and safety requirements, company policies and agreement provisions.
- Prepare HR reports and maintain workforce metrics as required.
- Participate in the implementation of HR programs, processes, and special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of progressive Human Resources experience in a generalist capacity.
- Experience within the hospitality, hotel, restaurant, or service industry is considered an asset.




- Experience handling employee relations matters and workplace investigations.
- Sound knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, labour relations principles, human rights legislation, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a strong asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Based primarily at the Ottawa hotel location.
- Supports both hotel and restaurant operations.
- Occasional travel to Montreal may be required for meetings, training, and corporate initiatives.
- Flexibility to support operational requirements outside regular business hours when necessary.
