Overview The Indigenous Cultural Support Worker provides culturally respectful, person-centered support to Indigenous individuals. The position focuses on promoting cultural identity, connection, belonging, and participation in culturally meaningful activities while supporting individuals in their daily lives and personal goals.

The worker builds positive relationships with individuals, families, community members, and service providers and helps create an environment that respects Indigenous traditions, values, histories, and cultural practices.

Responsibilities

- Provide respectful, person-centered support based on each individual’s needs, goals, and support plan.
- Promote cultural connection, identity, belonging, and participation in Indigenous traditions and community activities.
- Support individuals in accessing culturally appropriate services, programs, events, and community resources.
- Encourage participation in cultural activities, ceremonies, traditional practices, storytelling, arts, crafts, and other appropriate cultural experiences.
- Develop positive and trusting relationships with individuals while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Support individuals with daily living activities, community participation, appointments, and other activities as required.
- Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, Indigenous communities, Elders, cultural advisors, and other service providers where appropriate.
- Advocate for individuals' needs, rights, dignity, and cultural preferences.
- Recognize and respect individual differences in cultural background, traditions, beliefs, and levels of cultural connection.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect personal information in accordance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.
- Complete accurate daily documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other required records.
- Follow individual support plans, safety procedures, medication procedures, and organizational policies.




- Identify and report concerns related to an individual's safety, well-being, or support needs to the appropriate supervisor.
- Participate in team meetings, training, supervision, and professional development.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally respectful environment.
- · Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills

- One (2) year of previous experience in working with children and families and/or in a related field.
- Knowledge and experience in working with a trauma-informed and Client-Centred approach.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, histories, and community practices.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Previous experience in social services, disability support, child and youth care, community support, or a related field is an asset.
- A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle may be required depending on the position and program.

Educational Requirement:

Degree or Diploma in the Human Services field with at least one year of related experience in working with children and families. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certificate(s) requirement

- A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (condition of employment)
- Child Intervention Check (condition of employment)
- Must be registered with the relevant professional organization as governed by the Health Professions Act.
- Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.
