AccuRatio is a small, hands-on instrumentation engineering company working on strain gauge instrumentation, data acquisition, and test/measurement projects for clients across energy, drilling, and industrial sectors. We work close to the hardware — this isn't a role where things stay on a screen.
About the Role
We're looking for a junior mechanical engineer or engineering technologist to join us for a mix of mechanical design and hands-on instrumentation work. This is a dual-nature role: part of your week will be spent at a bench or on-site physically installing sensors and wiring in tight, unforgiving spaces; the other part will be spent analyzing the data those sensors produce and turning it into reports our clients can actually use to make decisions.
This is not a desk-only design job. You'll be expected to get your hands dirty — soldering, bonding, routing cable, working carefully and patiently in cramped enclosures — just as often as you're behind a screen modeling a part or reviewing a dataset. If you'd rather stay purely on the CAD/analysis side, this role isn't the right fit; if you genuinely enjoy building and fixing things with your hands and also like figuring out what data is telling you, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Support mechanical design work (CAD modeling, drawings, fit-up) for instrumentation hardware and fixtures
- Install and wire strain gauges, sensors, and data acquisition equipment, often in tight or hard-to-access locations
- Travel to client sites as needed for on-location installation and testing work
- Review and analyze strain/sensor data and help prepare clear,
client-facing reports explaining what the results mean
- Support general project tasks as needed — this is a small team, so duties shift with what each project requires
What We're Looking For
- A junior mechanical engineer or engineering technologist (recent grad or early-career welcome) — this is an entry-level role, we're not expecting years of industry experience
- Real comfort and patience with fine, accurate hands-on work — think soldering, small assembly, anything requiring a steady hand and a lot of patience — more than any specific past project experience
- Solid fundamentals in mechanical design and enough comfort with data/numbers to interpret results and explain them clearly to a non-technical audience
- Willingness to learn — strain gauge installation specifically is a skill we train for; what matters more is your track record of sticking with fiddly physical work until you get it right
- A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites as needed
What We Offer
- $45,000–$55,000 CAD annually (commensurate with experience), paid biweekly
