Global Financial Firm located in Mississauga has an immediate contract opportunity for an experienced Kafka Engineer
Job Purpose
We are looking for an engineer with significant Kafka experience to join our team creating pipelines for new streaming applications for financial data. You will work closely with product owners and team members to deliver solutions through new and existing channels.
As a Kafka Engineer you will be responsible for the reliable, scalable deployment of multiple Kafka clusters. You will build and integrate with other systems for provisioning, monitoring, and alerting. Working closely with our support teams and development teams, you will help deliver this project with a high level of automation and reliability. We want to minimize manual processes and strong software engineering proficiency in this role is key.

Key Responsibilities
Building and maintaining a large-scale Kafka platform (including components from the wider Kafka ecosystem) to support a range of big data streaming applications
Being the point of contact for new teams seeking to use the platform – i.e. supporting and onboarding their data and applications, seeking to automate these tasks wherever possible
Developing a suite of tools around the Kafka platform to give clients the ability to manage their data, e.g. by sourcing or sinking it from other on-premise databases and in the cloud
Building a close relationship with clients and stakeholders to understand the use case for the platform, and prioritise work accordingly
Working well in a multidisciplinary DevOps-focused team, building a close relationship with development, SRE and L1 Support teams
Skills & Qualifications:
You have at least six months experience working with an Apache Kafka instance running in production
You have familiarity with the wider Apache Kafka ecosystem (Streaming, KSQL, Connect Platform)
You are passionate about databases and worked in the past with a range of SQL/NoSQL technologies (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, Couchbase, BigQuery)
You have experience deploying and managing fault-tolerant systems on Linux/Unix
You are fluent in at least one programming/scripting language, preferably Python
You would potentially have familiarity with Docker/OpenShift and Cloud Platforms
You have high development standards, especially for code quality, code reviews, unit testing, continuous integration and deployment
You have proven capability to interact with clients and deliver results, taking ideas to production
You have experience working in quick paced development environments
You agree that verbal and written communication skills are vital
