Livestock Assistant
Position Summary
Neerlandia Co-op is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Livestock Assistant to support the daily operations of our Feed & Livestock Supplies department. Working closely with the Feed & Livestock Supplies Manager, the successful candidate will provide exceptional customer service, assist with inventory management, support warehouse operations, and contribute to the overall success of the department.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Office Operations
- Welcome customers and provide information regarding products, pricing, services and availability
- Process customer orders, sales transactions and payments accurately and efficiently
- Receive inventory into retail management systems and maintain accurate records
- Notify customers when orders are ready for pick up
- Respond to customer inquiries in person, by telephone and email
- Build and maintain robust customer relationships by understanding their operational needs and business goals
- Create, update and maintain both digital and in-store merchandising displays
- Maintain office records and documentation
- Prepare letters, reports, emails and other administrative documentation as required
- Compile information related to inventory levels, sales activity, pricing, shipments and outstanding accounts
- Monitor industry trends, product developments and competitor offerings
- Support initiatives that promote a positive customer experience and strong community presence
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Assist with planning and coordinating the storage and organization of inventory
- Safely unload incoming shipments using a forklift, including pallets, bagged product and large livestock equipment
- Load customer vehicles with products while ensuring safe handling practices
- Assist with inventory control processes, including receiving, tracking stock movement
- Conduct inventory counts, spot checks and support monthly and annual inventory procedures
- Inspect shipments for damage and accuracy of received goods
- Ensure products are stored in designated locations according to established procedures
- Communicate inventory concerns and stock level requirements to the department manager
General Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment both inside and outside the facility
- Perform routine housekeeping and facility maintenance duties
- Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, policies and procedures
- Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of workplace safety
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Reporting This position reports directly to the Feed & Livestock Supply Manager.
Hours of Work
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Occasional Saturdays: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Agriculture, Animal Science or a related field is considered an asset
- Experience in agricultural sales, livestock production, or a related industry is preferred
- Valid forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Previous customer service, retail, inventory or warehouse experience is an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Robust commitment to providing excellent customer service
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with inventory or point-of-sale systems
- Sound mathematical and problem solving skills
- Ability to follow procedures, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Physically capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50lbs on a regular basis
- Dependable, honest, and self-motivated with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Include old hay is better than moldy hay in your application.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver license
