Position Summary The Manager, Visual Merchandising and Brand Standards (Dulux/Bétonel) will own the in-store customer experience across the Dulux store network. This role is responsible for store sales floor, planograms, fixture standards, signage, visual merchandising, and brand presentation, ensuring a consistent, modern, and commercially effective customer experience across all locations.
Working closely with Sundries Category Manager, Operations, Marketing, Sales, this role develops and executes merchandising strategies that improve customer engagement, attachment selling, store productivity, and brand consistency. The position is the operational and creative counterpart to the Sundries Category Manager, who owns assortment and vendor relationships.
In this Role, you will:
Store Experience, Layouts & Visual Standards
- Define and maintain store format standards, store sales floor layout, archetypes, and merchandising guidelines across the Dulux store network.
- Develop and maintain store sales floor, including sundries merchandising, customer traffic flow, service counter front design, and overall retail experience standards
- Optimize store sales floor to maximize customer flow, product visibility, attachment selling, and operational efficiency.
- Define and maintain fixture standards, including gondolas, endcaps, service counters, promotional displays, and seasonal presentation areas.
- Lead merchandising requirements for store openings, relocations, remodels, and refresh projects.
Planograms & Merchandising Execution
- Build and maintain planograms for all in-store categories, tiered by store format and trade mix, in partnership with the Sundries Category Manager and Store Operations team.
- Own the reset calendar: plan, schedule, communicate, and validate seasonal and category resets across the network with minimal disruption to store selling hours.
- Define shelf-level presentation standards including facings logic, price and information signage, endcap and feature bay programs, and impulse/counter placement.
- Maintain the merchandising library and standards: shelving, pegboard, colour displays, gondola specs, and the approved vendor display program.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with the Director of Real Estate and Store Development to integrate merchandising requirements into store development, relocations, and capital projects.
- Conduct store visits to assess compliance, coach teams, and identify merchandising opportunities.
- Partner with Regional Operations Managers and Store Managers to drive consistent execution of merchandising standards.
- Train store teams and new managers on presentation standards, reset execution, and day-to-day store experience management
- Collaborate with the Sundries Category Manager to support assortment performance and category growth objectives.
- Partner with Dulux Marketing and assist in translating national marketing and promotional campaigns into executable in-store presentation packages.
- Partner with Dulux Marketing to own in-store signage standards and the brand environment; any customer walking into a Dulux store gets a consistent experience, adapted to the respective customer profile of the location
- Provide hands-on support for priority store openings, relocations, renovations, and merchandising resets.
- Work with Finance to Track sales per linear foot, merchandising productivity, and category performance to identify improvement opportunities.
Reporting & Performance Management · Establish and maintain merchandising performance metrics, compliance reporting, presentation scorecards, and key performance indicators (e.g., compliance, sales per linear foot, and category sell-through performance).
· Design and run structured pilots using test store groups to justify potential presentation investment
- Monitor planogram compliance, visual execution standards, category performance, and attachment-selling effectiveness.
- Maintain alignment between merchandising strategy, operational requirements, and customer experience objectives.
- Prepare presentations, reports, merchandising strategies, and capital recommendations for leadership review.
- Support business planning related to store refreshes, fixture investments, signage programs, and merchandising initiatives.
Partnership with the Sundries Category Manager The below outlines a few examples for the division of responsibility between the Manager, Visual Merchandising and Brand Standards and the Sundries Category Manager Items owned by the Sundries Category Manager in partnership with the Manager, Visual Merchandising and Brand Standards:
- Sundries SKUs included in the assortment, vendor selection and terms
- Cost, margin and retail pricing architecture
Items owned by the Manager, Visual Merchandising and Brand Standards in partnership with the Sundries Category Manager:
- Space allocated between categories
- Planogram construction, facings, etc.
- Reset timing, execution methods, and field compliance
- Fixture types, signage, and brand environment (in partnership with Dulux marketing)
What we’re looking for :
- 3-7+ years of experience in retail merchandise presentation, space planning, store planning, or visual merchandising in a multi-store environment
- Demonstrated ownership of planograms across a network, including tiering / segmentation by store formats and/or customer profiles
- Willingness to travel as needed across Canada including regular store visits and support
- Bilingual (English/French) given the Quebec store base.
- Working knowledge of CAD, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite for layout and concept communication.
- Experience launching a new store format or brand refresh across an existing network.
First Twelve Months Success Metrics
- Months 1-2: Complete a full network assessment. Document the current-state variance across store formats. Deliver a tiered format definition and a prioritized fix list with cost estimates.
- Months 3-4: Publish the Dulux presentation standard including layout archetypes, fixture library, signage system, and planogram tiering logic. Kickoff first category reset (sundries) in a pilot store group. Answer the question “when we open a new store, what should it look like?”
Months 5-12: Roll the standard across the network on a phased calendar. Establish the presentation scorecard in the ROM reporting cadence. Deliver a measured lift in sales per linear foot in reset categories and a documented new-store opening playbook.
