POSITION TITLE: Manufacturing Engineering Co-op Student

LOCATION: North Bay, Ontario

Salary: $20 to $25 per hour

Anticipated Start Date: January 4th, 2027

MacLean Engineering is looking for an energetic Manufacturing Engineering Co-op Student to join our Manufacturing Engineering team in North Bay, ON. This co-op opportunity is ideal for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic Engineering and Production environment while applying classroom learning to real manufacturing challenges. The successful candidate will work with engineering, production, and other cross-functional groups, including vendors and customers, in support of the design and manufacturing of heavy mobile mining equipment.

About the Co-op Position: The Manufacturing Engineering Co-op Student will support problem solving, process improvement, and root cause analysis activities across various products and manufacturing disciplines, primarily liaising between production and engineering. This role provides exposure to product and process development, quality-focused manufacturing practices, and continuous improvement initiatives. The following learning opportunities and responsibilities are included:

- Support the use of SolidWorks to add manufacturing details to existing drawings and new designs, helping outline optimal manufacturing processes for welding, machining, electrical/mechanical assembly, and paint;
- Assist with jig, fixture, part, and process design using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and support coordination of releases into production through the ECN process;
- Help create SOPs and Work Instructions to standardize and define manufacturing processes;
- Support responses to customer, factory, and vendor non-conformances and assist with documenting issues in the Product Problem Reporting Database, including interim actions, root cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up as applicable;
- Identify and support coordination of improvement opportunities, including basic ROI review and implementation support where applicable;
- Participate in quotation and project support activities for contract manufacturing projects,



with guidance from experienced team members.
- About You: The successful co-op student must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

- Currently enrolled in an Engineering Technician or Technologist program in a Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial discipline, or equivalent, and returning to school following the co-op term;
- Positive attitude, strong aptitude, humility, and willingness to learn are required;
- Previous exposure to machining and/or welding through school, projects, co-op placements, or work experience is considered an asset;
- Exposure to mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical assembly through school, projects, co-op placements, or work experience is considered an asset;
- Exposure to Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, or an OEM fabrication environment is considered an asset;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and exposure to SolidWorks or similar design software;

- Able to demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude;

- Able to take initiative, manage assigned priorities, and ask questions when support or clarification is needed;
- Problem-solving ability, interest in value stream mapping, and strong constructive communication skills are considered assets.
