Reporting to the Program Coordinator/Executive Director, the Mentor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the program and ensuring a safe, structured, and respectful environment for all relatives. The Mentor is also expected to conduct regular rotational room checks and safety checks on relatives.

Mentors work a 7-day rotation schedule and must be available for either evening or night shifts, depending on the position.

Required Qualifications

· Ensure the safety and well-being of all relatives participating in programming with NACM.

· Ensure relatives are in their assigned bedrooms during designated quiet hours and follow program expectations.

· Conduct hourly building rounds ensuring all doors, windows, and offices are secured as required.

· Maintain a daily logbook and accurately document all activities on shift.

· Administer, log, and monitor medications, as directed by Supervisor, ensuring controlled access to the medication room is in accordance with NACM policy.

· Facilitate sharing circle, scheduled programming, and other assigned activities.

· Engage and listen to relatives in a kind and gentle manner.

· Notify Supervisor immediately in case of illness, accident, or inebriation on the premises.

· Monitor communal areas to ensure they remain clean, secure, and respectful for all participants.

· Ensure knowledge, protocols, and procedures are followed in the event of an emergency.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements

· Must be bondable.

· Diploma, certificate, or degree in the addictions field would be considered an asset.

· Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the field, preferably working in Northern communities and with their members.

· Understanding of strength-based approach, trauma-informed care, community capacity-based models, and solution focused practices.





· Understanding of social factors that affect the health and well-being of relatives.

· Satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector, and child & adult abuse registry checks.

· Strong documentation and record keeping skills.

· Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to de-escalate crisis situations.

· Adherence to highest ethical standards.
