About the Role The Métis Family Centered Program (MFCP) is designed to support Métis children, youth and families involved with the child welfare system. This program will be responsible for receiving notifications from Children’s Aid Societies (CAS) and Indigenous Child Wellbeing Agencies (ICWA), participate in decision making discussions including but not limited to: safety planning, service plans, placement of children/youth, the removal of a child from a parent’s home and to support the connection of Métis children, youth and parents to their local communities.

The Métis Family Centered Program (MFCP) Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Métis Family Centered Program. The Specialist will play a key role in identifying program gaps, challenges and evaluate risk ongoing for the program and the Nation overall. The Specialist will support implementation of the program in areas such as: development of resource/tools, support infrastructure development, provide training and evaluate program activities to identify risks to program safety and trends that prevent repatriation and continue the cycle of family disruption.

The Specialist will work collaboratively with the Healing and Wellness Branch and the MFCP to provide specialized support relating to child and family services and working within the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA). The Specialist would be responsible for leading initiatives and projects for the program, for the purpose of expanding the Métis Family Centered Program and advancing the Healing and Wellness Branch’s strategic goals and objectives. An area of focus will be the advancement of a protocol with Children’s Aid Societies, to inform the sector on how to work with Métis people and the Métis Nation of Ontario.





What you will be doing Support the ongoing growth of the Métis Family Centered Program including facilitating the improvement of infrastructure needs, resources/tools, and processes that will guide the operation of the program.

Spearhead the implementation and expansion of the child and family services portfolio at the Métis Nation of Ontario under the direction of the manager.

Engage regularly with frontline staff, community members and sector partners to ensure the program and activities reflect Métis needs and priorities.

Provide recommendations to address service gaps, barriers and challenges of the program.

Support program work with sector partners to develop a Protocol for province-wide use.

Engage in partnerships related to the child welfare sector that could enhance the quality and accessibility of services for Métis communities – this may be with other organizations, service providers and child welfare agencies across Ontario.

Develop, plan and facilitate knowledge sharing and/or and manager with capacity building opportunities for MNO staff and Citizens. Develop, plan and facilitate knowledge workshops with Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child Wellbeing Agencies in Ontario. This will be used as a mechanism to educate the sector on Métis people in Ontario and expectations on working with MNO Citizens.

Support the program and manager in rolling out initiatives, resources, and activities related to the portfolio.





Evaluate program activities and efficacy to identify risks and provide recommendations to mitigate as it relates to the safety of the program, MNO Citizens and to the Nation overall. Provide high level written and verbal briefings to the manager for internal and external stakeholders.

Promote the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and qualified relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.)

Report all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation.

Perform other job/branch-related duties as required.

Qualifications 1 to 3 years of experience working with children, youth and families.

University Degree or certification in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and programs offered

Be familiar with the child welfare sector in Ontario (with awareness about history and challenges specific to FNIM children, youth and families within this sector).

Working knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), including an awareness of history and challenges specific to FNIM children, youth and families within this sector).

Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision

Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.

Understanding of Métis culture and communities.

A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment.

Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal.

Superior organization skills and time management skills.
