Ministry Work Experience Program Guide Revision Team The BC Teachers' Federation (BCTF) is seeking four career education members to participate as BCTF representatives in the Ministry of Education and Child Care's Work Experience (WEX) Program Guide Revision Team.

Project The

Ministry is assembling a team of four career educators and two administrators to form a WEX Program Guide Revision Team, to advise on the creation of language for the WEX program guide that supports the delivery of WEX in a new two-credit format. Work Experience (WEX) 12A and 12B are currently offered as four-credit, Ministry-authorized elective courses that give students the chance to participate in, observe, and learn about the tasks and responsibilities related to an occupation or career. The Ministry is introducing two-credit WEX options with shorter duration work experience placements to provide students with greater flexibility, accessibility, and opportunity for career exploration.

This change responds to feedback from educators, employers, and sector partners indicating that the duration of current work experience placements is a barrier to employer engagement and placement, student enrolment and course completion, and participation by diverse learners,

including those with disabilities or diverse abilities. The primary objectives of the team are to outline how to meet the course’s Learning Standards within a two-credit model, recommend consistent approaches to the duration of work experience placements in the two- and four-credit options, and help craft real-world examples that demonstrate the applicability of sector-specific course codes to students’ work experience placements. Up to one half-day (3.5 hours) spent meeting virtually with the Ministry and team members to review project objectives, discuss aspects of the existing Program Guide, and begin drafting guidance Up to two hours of self-directed work refining guidance for inclusion in the Program Guide Potentially one day (i.e., Travel, accommodation, and meal costs will be reimbursed according to BC Government rates and guidelines. familiarity with the BC curriculum, in particular experience teaching Work Experience 12 within the past three years, and any experience in Career-Life Education, Career-Life Connections, or a Career Program over the past three years balance of diversity-gender, Aboriginal, regional representation, etc.,
