Position Summary

Regular Part time Support Staff, new position

In Conestoga’s dynamic environment, Child Development Practitioners collaborate within our unique lab school setting to model the philosophy taught in Conestoga’s Early Learning programs, connecting the childcare experience with the academic environment.

We are currently recruiting someone who is interested in being sponsored in the Child Development Practitioner program (Apprenticeship) who is willing to learn; attend evening classes (two nights) and work during the day. We require a passionate employee who will follow the philosophy of the Conestoga College Early Learning Programs and maintain professional relationships with children, families, and Educators. The incumbent will support the implementation of quality programs for children aged 0-4 years old.

The incumbent is responsible for upholding the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and the Staff Handbook guidelines.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work on-site five days per week, Monday to Friday, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. at the Silverheights Child and Youth Development Centre, located at 390 Scott Road in Cambridge.

Responsibilities

Health, safety, food service and program support

- Ensure compliance with all Centre policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to health and safety, sanitation, food handling, and food storage
- Prepare, serve, and clean up catered snacks and lunch service daily
- Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen facilities, including washing dishes, equipment, and food preparation areas
- Clean and sanitize kitchen appliances, cupboards, shelves, refrigerators,



freezers, and other equipment as required
- Complete laundry duties to support daily Centre operations
- Prepare program rooms for rest periods by setting up, sanitizing, and storing cots and related equipment

Childcare and early learning support

- Model and support the philosophy and best practices of the Early Childhood Education program
- Foster positive, respectful, and inclusive interactions with children, families, colleagues, and students
- Uphold the requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act and adhere to Centre policies and procedures
- Promote and support the health, safety, well-being, and development of children in the Centre
- Provide ongoing supervision of children during indoor and outdoor play, routines, transitions, and daily activities

Team collaboration and professional practice

- Collaborate effectively as a member of the Child Development Centre team
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and Centre initiatives
- Communicate accidents, incidents, parent concerns, schedule changes, and other significant matters to the Supervisor
- Seek guidance and clarification from the Supervisor or Early Childhood Education faculty when unexpected situations arise
- Participate in professional development opportunities to support ongoing learning and continuous improvement

Qualifications

- Current registration in a Child Development Practitioner Program (Apprenticeship) is required
- Standard First Aid and CPR training required
- Completion of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required
- A Food Handler certificate is considered an asset
- Ability to comply with immunization requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Ability to work creatively, flexibly, and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
