Department of Municipal and Community Affairs - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Reporting to the Manager of Land Use Planning, this position will be responsible for reviewing Regional and Municipal planning documents to ensure consistency with provincial policy and law; coordinating provincial interests; researching and writing provincial land use policy statements; responding to requests regarding municipal planning areas; preparing technical reports; and researching current planning topics. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for responding to requests for interpretation of planning law, land use policy, government policy, as well as municipal plans and development regulations. Reviews and make recommendations on land use referrals from other departments.
This position also provides training to councils and staff on municipal plan implementation along with other related duties as required.
Screening Criteria
1. Completion of degree in Land Use Planning (equivalencies will be considered)
2.
Eligible Member in the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP)
3. Experience in urban and rural planning
Assessment Criteria
1. Knowledge of urban and rural planning
2. Knowledge of provincial planning operations
3. Knowledge of land use planning in Newfoundland and Labrador (asset)
4. Proficiency with Google Earth
5. Ability to effectively exchange information
6. Ability to work independently
7. Ability to think critically
8. Ability to manage time and tasks
9. Relationship building
