We’re Hiring: Platform Engineer (Python / DevOps / Azure)

CANN Forecast is an creative company that uses artificial intelligence to develop decision support tools for the water and municipal infrastructure sector. Our mission is to enhance the value of data to help municipalities be proactive in the face of aging infrastructure and climate change.
Our tools are used by more than 50 municipalities across six provinces, from small towns to some of the largest regions in the country.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced developer to help lead the development, deployment, and security of platform infrastructure. The chosen candidate will also be expected to develop and ship new client-facing features in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, statisticians, and civil engineers to contribute to a fast-growing, enterprise web application that will soon migrate to a new architecture. Getting there is a shared priority, and this role is the one that carries it forward.
Within a multidisciplinary team combining data science, engineering and software development, the selected person will contribute to:
- Deployment of Azure Container Apps, with Redis and Service Bus,
- Development of new GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including self-hosted runners, protected branch rules and merge request approvals
- Consolidation of Jenkins pipelines into GitLab CI
- Management of environments, secrets and PostgreSQL/PostGIS instances behind development and production
- Implementation of proper monitoring, logging and alerting
- Implementation of the technical controls required for SOC 2 compliance
- Development and maintenance of features in a Flask application, and extending test coverage
- Ongoing database performance improvements :
schema cleanup, indexing, connection pooling, batching and caching
The successful candidate will be supported by our infrastructure team as well as by our expert consultant in Cloud software infrastructure, and will work day to day with our hydroinformatics specialist, data science team and full-stack developers. PROFILE The ideal person for this role should have:
- A degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum three years of relevant experience
- Solid Python skills, with experience developing backends for web applications
- Strong command of Linux
- Experience with Docker and with CI/CD pipelines
- Production experience on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP considered)
- Experience writing and optimizing SQL, ideally with PostgreSQL
- Fluent and deliberate use of AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude Code, with sound judgment about when to rely on them and when to verify
- Promote and enforce good development practices through thoughtful code reviews and collaborative feedback
- Autonomy, rigour and strong written and oral communication skills
NICE TO HAVE
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep or equivalent)
- Redis, message queues and asynchronous job architectures
- PostgreSQL/PostGIS performance tuning
- Experience supporting a security compliance program (SOC 2, ISO 27001)
- Experience with Flask specifically
- Interest in municipal infrastructure and geospatial data
- LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- English: advanced (oral and written)
- French: functional to advanced, or a willingness to learn with our support
