The Production Supervisor oversees production operations and sets production schedules based on product demand and staffing resources to ensure maximum production quantity and quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors• Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager• Supervises the daily activities of business or technical support or production team• Has formal supervisory responsibilities; sets priorities for and coaches employees to meet daily deadlines• Requires in-depth understanding of concepts, theories and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines• Uses judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems• Uses tact and diplomacy to exchange information and handle sensitive issues• Train novice employees on the most current Standard Operating Procedures• Ensure animals are moved and efficient animal flows are maintained• Ensure multiple areas on the farm are sanitized and washed using high pressure equipment• Verify accurate and timely production information and records are maintained• Ensure the timely treatment of sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals as required• Ensure barn maintenance, office cleanliness and laundry duties are complete• Ensure daily animal husbandry tasks are completed, including:o Wean procedureso Fitness testingo F.I.R.E. maintenance and implementation o On-testo Off-test (leg scoring, teat counting, ultrasound)o IMF testingo Production flow for testing, sales and slaughter (TOPs, sub-standards,
Improvest candidates)o Improvest program maintenance• Implement change plans in accordance with farm needs• Implementing and holding others accountable for following the Company’s animal care policies and procedures, safety program, bio-security protocols as well as compliance with all environmental laws and procedures. Employees are required to immediately report any known violation of said protocols and procedures• All other duties as assigned necessary for the care of the swine and/or swine facility
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in livestock production with proven results
- Ability and willingness to effectively manage 2+ full-time employees
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Proactive and ability to work in a team workplace as well as independently
- Ability to work hours needed operationally, which can vary frequently and include weekend, evening, holidays and emergency situations
- Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility
- Ability to travel; 5-10% based on production needs
