Bring Your Sales Drive to a Growing Canadian Marine Company
Sideshift designs and manufactures aftermarket bow and stern thruster systems that give recreational boaters greater control, confidence and manoeuvrability on the water. Our Canadian-made products are sold in more than 60 countries and have earned a strong reputation for performance, value and straightforward retrofit installation.
We have a proven product, an established customer base and significant opportunity ahead of us. We are growing our direct-to-consumer business, strengthening our relationships with dealers and installers, and expanding our presence within the recreational boating market.
We’re looking for an experienced, energetic salesperson who wants to help drive that growth.
The Opportunity
This role is for someone who genuinely enjoys sales—the pursuit, the conversation, the follow-up and the satisfaction of winning the business.
You will work directly with boat owners, dealers and installers to understand their needs, recommend the right Sideshift solution and guide the opportunity through to a decision. Some customers will come to you. Others will require initiative, persistence and disciplined follow-up.
You don’t need to arrive as a marine expert. You do need to be interested in how things work, comfortable learning a technical product and able to turn that knowledge into a clear and compelling sales conversation.
Your job is to understand the customer, earn their confidence, communicate the value of the product and close the sale.
Who Will Thrive Here
You get energy from selling and are motivated by results. You are comfortable picking up the phone, initiating conversations, asking good questions and confidently asking for the business.
You take ownership of opportunities. You don’t wait for customers to call back, and you don’t allow promising conversations or open quotations to quietly disappear.
You are also mechanically curious. You may already understand engines, battery systems, electrical products or other mechanical equipment—or you may have the aptitude and genuine interest to learn.
You are comfortable getting into the details and explaining technical information in practical, understandable language.
Sideshift customers care deeply about their boats and expect knowledgeable, responsive and professional service. You know how to build rapport with discerning customers while remaining focused on moving the sale forward.
You will also be comfortable in a small, growing company where people work closely together, take responsibility and contribute beyond the narrow boundaries of their job descriptions.
What You’ll Own
- Manage the complete sales process from initial inquiry through qualification, recommendation, quotation, follow-up and close
- Respond quickly and confidently to inbound sales opportunities
- Generate additional opportunities through referrals, lead follow-up and channel development
- Build relationships with boat owners, marine dealers, installers and other industry partners
- Ask effective questions to understand each customer’s boat, needs, timing and buying motivation
- Recommend the right Sideshift solution and clearly communicate its value
- Prepare accurate quotes and identify appropriate cross-selling and upselling opportunities
- Handle objections, create momentum and confidently ask for the sale
- Re-engage prospects and pursue open quotations until a decision is reached
- Maintain an accurate and active pipeline in the CRM
- Track activity, conversion rates and results against sales targets
- Work closely with engineering, production and operations when additional technical expertise is required
- Support a strong customer experience and handoff after the sale
- Bring ideas, initiative and energy to the company’s continued growth
What You Bring
- At least three years of direct sales experience
- A demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding individual sales targets
- Experience managing a sales pipeline and closing business
- Genuine enthusiasm for sales and a strong desire to win
- Energy, initiative and disciplined follow-up
- Confidence initiating conversations, handling objections and asking for commitment
- Mechanical or technical aptitude and an interest in learning how the product works
- The ability to explain technical information clearly and practically
- A polished, credible and personable communication style
- Sound judgement and the ability to balance persistence with professionalism
- Experience using a CRM to manage opportunities and next steps
- The adaptability and self-direction to succeed in a small, hands-on company
Experience selling marine products, recreational vehicles, automotive products, industrial equipment, building products, electrical systems or other technical or manufactured products would be an asset.
Marine experience is not required. Proven sales experience is.
