Role: Senior Software Engineer – Java & Decision Engineering Platform

Location: Vancouver, Canada (Hybrid, 3 days/week onsite)

Duration: 12 Months (Open to Extension)

Hiring an engineer who can explain how and why a solution was developed, not simply a Java developer who can write code. Problem solving, technical decision-making, and ownership are the primary factors that will determine interview success.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a senior-level engineer who thinks before coding, understands why technical decisions are made, can explain trade-offs, and has experience building and operating production systems. Candidates who demonstrate strong engineering judgment and independent ownership will be prioritized over candidates who only have extensive Java experience.

Position Overview

Sseeking a Senior Software Engineer to support its AI & Decision Engineering Platform within the Decision Management organization. Java is the primary technology, but this role is focused on much more than coding. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver who can analyze complex requirements, evaluate multiple technical approaches, explain trade-offs, and take ownership of engineering decisions.

The successful candidate will design scalable solutions, contribute to architecture discussions, and understand how systems perform in real-world production environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze complex business and technical problems and develop effective solutions.
- Evaluate multiple solution approaches and clearly communicate technical trade-offs.
- Design and develop scalable, reliable software using Java and modern engineering practices.
- Participate in system design, architecture, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Take ownership of projects, technical decisions, and deliverables.
- Consider performance, latency, throughput, scalability, maintainability, and reliability when designing solutions.




- Develop and maintain production-ready applications and services.
- Implement appropriate testing, validation, monitoring, and quality practices.
- Work with GitHub and source-control workflows, including branching and code reviews.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders while working independently when required.
- Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
- Strong Java software development experience.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Solid understanding of system design and software engineering principles.
- Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and explain technical decisions and trade-offs.
- Experience designing and supporting production applications.
- Strong understanding of GitHub/source control and development workflows.
- Ability to demonstrate ownership of complex projects and deliverables.

Round 2 – Technical Panel: Coding, system design, and problem solving with Senior and Lead Software Engineers.

Round 3 – As Needed: Additional technical validation when required.
