Position Summary
Culligan of Fort McMurray is looking for a mechanically inclined and dependable Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water treatment, water dispensing, coffee, and beverage equipment.
This role supports residential, commercial, and industrial customers throughout Fort McMurray and the surrounding area. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, travelling to customer sites, completing required safety documentation, and providing skilled customer service.
Previous experience with Culligan equipment is not required. We are looking for someone with strong mechanical ability, a willingness to learn, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment safely and effectively.
Schedule The successful candidate will initially work a Monday to Friday schedule, 8 hours per day, while completing training and becoming familiar with Culligan equipment, customer locations, service procedures, and safety requirements.
Once training has been successfully completed and the employee is able to independently perform the requirements of the position, the role will transition to the branch's 12-hour rotational shift schedule.
The timing of the transition will be based on demonstrated competency and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Service & Repair
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water treatment, dispensing, coffee, and beverage equipment.
- Service equipment including:
- Water softeners
- Reverse osmosis systems
- Filtration systems
- Bottled and bottleless water coolers
- Commercial coffee brewers
- Bean-to-cup coffee machines
- Grinders and related beverage equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, descaling, calibration, and operational checks.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, electrical, water-supply, pump, valve, heating, and dispensing issues.
- Identify equipment requiring parts, additional repairs, replacement, or manufacturer/vendor support.
- Test equipment following repairs to confirm proper operation before returning it to service.
Installations
- Install residential and commercial water treatment, dispensing, coffee, and beverage equipment.
- Complete basic plumbing and equipment connections associated with installations.
- Ensure installations are safe, clean, professional, and tested before commissioning.
- Record equipment model and serial numbers accurately.
- Provide customers with basic instruction on equipment operation when required.
Commercial & Industrial Site Work
- Travel to commercial and industrial customer locations throughout the Fort McMurray service area.
- Follow customer-specific site access, PPE, orientation, and safety requirements.
- Complete FLRAs,
hazard assessments, SiteDocs documentation, and other required site paperwork.
- Work safely and independently while representing Culligan professionally on customer sites.
- Communicate completed work, outstanding repairs, parts requirements, and follow-up needs to the office and service team.
Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
- Explain equipment issues and recommended solutions in clear, understandable terms.
- Provide a high level of customer service while working in homes, offices, industrial facilities, and other customer locations.
- Escalate concerns or situations requiring additional authorization to the appropriate team member or manager.
Documentation & Administration
- Complete service work orders accurately and promptly.
- Record parts used, equipment information, serial numbers, work performed, and recommended follow-up.
- Obtain required customer signatures and service confirmations.
- Respond to communications from service writers, administrative staff, and management in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records in company systems, including Watertight and SiteDocs where applicable.
Vehicle, Tools & Inventory
- Maintain an assigned company vehicle in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
- Complete required vehicle inspections and report defects promptly.
- Maintain company tools and service equipment.
- Maintain appropriate service stock and commonly required replacement parts.
- Notify the office when specialized parts, materials, or equipment are required.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow Culligan, Compass Group, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Complete required hazard assessments and pre-job documentation.
- Use appropriate PPE for each task and work location.
- Report incidents, near misses, hazards, vehicle damage, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Stop work when hazards cannot be safely controlled.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Professional communication and customer-service skills.
- Comfortable using mobile devices, email, and electronic work-order systems.
- Ability to safely lift and move equipment and materials associated with the position.
- Willingness to travel to commercial and industrial sites.
- Willingness and ability to transition to a 12-hour rotational shift schedule once training is completed.
- Willingness and ability to learn new equipment, systems, and technologies.

Working Conditions
This position may require
- Driving throughout Fort McMurray and surrounding areas.
- Working at residential, commercial, and industrial customer locations.
- Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Working in mechanical rooms, kitchens, offices, utility areas, and industrial facilities.
- Lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working around water treatment and beverage equipment.
- Working a 12-hour rotational shift schedule following completion of training.
- Additional hours or schedule adjustments based on operational requirements.
- Participation in after-hours or emergency service coverage when required.
What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate does not necessarily need previous water treatment or coffee equipment experience. We are looking for a reliable, mechanically capable person who can troubleshoot problems, work safely, communicate professionally with customers, and take ownership of their work from the initial service call through completion.
Someone with experience in industrial maintenance, appliance repair, plumbing, commercial equipment, vending, food-service equipment, or a similar mechanical field could be an excellent fit for this position.
