Synopsis:

The Kildonan MCC Thrift Shop is actively engaged in receiving and selling used clothing, small furniture, small appliances, housewares, books, toys, jewellery and collectibles with all proceeds designated to support the relief and development work of Mennonite Central Committee. This assignment involves sorting donated product in accordance with Health Canada and KMTS policies, all in a manner that is efficient and fostering Christian respect for customers, staff and volunteers. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

This position and will require a strong self-starter who is able to work with little supervision and be instrumental into developing the daily activities of this role. The first couple of months will be spent learning the donation receiving and processing areas, as well as general sales floor duties, including cash register.

Qualifications:

- Minimum High School Diploma, undergraduate degree preferred.
- 3 to 5 years working in a retail setting
- Strong understanding of the different demographics and generations of volunteers.
- Physically fit and able to work on one’s feet for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to communicate fluently in English.
- Driver's license with clean record, potential to work on delivery truck as driver or assistant.
- Highly organized and able to maintain a structured and organized workplace.




- Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage continual incoming workload.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and willing to take initiative, while at the same time responding to the direction of Management.
- Robust interpersonal skills, willing and able to work & relate with a variety of people; friendly, outgoing and appreciative of both volunteers and customers.
- Ability to practice flexibility and work collaboratively as a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Demonstrate an Anabaptist value of service.
- Satisfactory criminal record clearance.
- Heart for social justice, peacemaking and global understanding.

Duties:

- Sort donated items in accordance to Health Canada and KMTS polices
- Provide support in receiving when required, this may include physically receiving donations.
- Abide by WHIMIS standards within all job responsibilities.
- Able to lift furniture to be cleaned, and moved to floor/delivery truck.
- Articulate the mission/purpose of KMTS to customers/donors, as required.
- Model nonviolent peacemaking in the work place, in the community and the church.
- Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those we serve, including the staff, volunteers and customers.
- Participate in planned KMTS trainings, as required.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Willingness to lead on a rotating basis.
- Perform other duties, as required.

Challenges: The position requires working in a comfortable but fast-paced retail shop / shipping & receiving environment and requires spending a significant portion of time on one's feet.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50-$17.50 per hour
