ʔaq̓am is a member Community of the Ktunaxa Nation (pronounced ‘k-too-nah-ha’). ʔaq̓am Organization exists for the Community. Externally, we are here to serve the Community, and internally, we are our own Community, comprised of different departments unified by our Vision, Mission, and Values. About the Chance

We are currently recruiting a Student Services/Prep Coverage Teacher to join our team in Cranbrook, BC.The Student Services Teacher position at ʔaq̓am is responsible for providing collaborative consultation, instruction, assessment, assisting with pre-referral interventions and working closely with teachers to plan for, organize and access support services for students with special needs. Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- - At the beginning of each school year,



collaborate and prepare with teachers the student IEPs, behaviour reports and student service referrals as necessary for review by the Principal.
- Implement and monitor the student IEPs, etc. throughout the year to ensure changes are made where necessary in a timely manner.
- Complete and finalize all student assessment information (DIBELS, IEPs, CAT4) after review by Principal.
- Develop Individual Education Plans and Smart Goals in collaboration with classroom teachers.
- Use appropriate and effective classroom management skills and techniques to keep students organized, focused, and attentive.
- Ensure Community values, culture, language, and concepts are embedded throughout the School and its classrooms.
- Assist support workers with the development and implementation of behavior and academic support plans.
- Fulfill required duties as per BC teaching standards.
- Evaluate student progress using formative assessment methods to monitor student learning and identify areas of strength and where improvement is needed, along with summative assessment methods as appropriate.
- Conference with support staff to assess students. Create report cards and provide interim reports. Keep Dibels (data reporting system) up to date.
- Monitor student behavior, logging incident reports and anecdotal notes.
- Participate in school-based team meetings, Professional Learning Communities meetings and professional development opportunities on a regular basis.
- Maintain clean work environment,



keeping classroom clean and assisting janitorial stuff with preparations to clean classrooms.
- Participate in extra-curricular activities related to students and the School (e.g. Open Houses, Running Club, etc.).
- Teaching students to develop learning strategies for use in classroom settings or for independent learning.
- Collaboration with classroom teachers, students and parents to design or implement instructional strategies or to adapt instructional content or materials which may facilitate learning for a student or group of students.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs, processes, etc. aimed at achieving goals related to education set out in the strategic plan. Consistently works towards achieving the Mission and Vision of ʔaq̓am and recognize achievement of goals.
- Contribute educational expertise or resources to the creation and implementation of a ktunaxa revitalization strategy.

More About You

In order to qualify for the Student Services/Prep Coverage Teacher role, you must have:

- Minimum Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent.
- Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate.
- Experience working in a First Nation environment is an asset.
- Experience working with individuals with Special Needs is an asset.
- Previous teaching experience is a definite asset.
- Completion of and possession of valid CPR and First Aid Certificate.

Salary will commensurate with experience from a range ($61,000-72,000) and includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan. Preference will be given to candidates of Ktunaxa or other Indigenous ancestry and ʔaq̓am encourages applicants to self-identify within your application.
