This application is to be on the School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) Teacher Teaching On Call (TTOC) list for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications are reviewed and interviews conducted (where required), including reference checks, to ensure alignment with current district expectations, instructional practices, and approaches to teaching and learning. Applicants who are new to SD 8 or who will have less than two (2) consecutive years of active TTOC service as of June 30, 2026 who are invited will need to interview prior to being awarded a spot on the list.
TTOCs who have completed two (2) or more consecutive years of active service with SD 8 by June 30, 2026, who are shortlisted for the position do not need to interview. an updated resume reflecting recent teaching experience, which may include practicum experience; hold, or be eligible to obtain prior to commencement of employment, a valid BC Teaching Certificate issued by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch; returning applicants must have fees paid and certification active for the applicable school year; hold a Bachelor of Education, at minimum, with at least one recognized teaching major, area, or focus. Travel within assigned Families of Schools, sometimes on short notice and in adverse weather conditions. Teach K–12 curriculum using the BC curriculum framework, including Big Ideas, Curricular Competencies, and Content Learning Standards, within a Know–Do–Understand context.
Incorporate
Indigenous perspectives and Indigenize curriculum in respectful and meaningful ways. have recent,
successful teaching experience in identified subject areas and/or grade levels; have training or experience in quality assessment practices, including differentiated instruction and criterion-referenced assessment. Teaching classifications will be based on academic qualifications and recent, demonstrated successful teaching experience. Applicants may be required to provide verification of certification or teaching experience related to the subject areas or grade levels indicated.
Applicants must be prepared to actively accept assignments on the SD8 Teacher Teaching on Call list during the 2026–2027 school year. The daily rate of pay for Teachers Teaching on Call ranges from $328.06 to $493.41 per day, based on experience and qualifications, in accordance with the collective agreement, to a maximum of Category 5 Step 8. SD8 serves families in a spectacular, biodiverse region that includes a portion of the West and East Kootenays in southeastern B.Its six families of schools are situated across 15,000 square kilometers of rivers, valleys, lakes, and three mountain ranges, connected by two main municipalities—the Town of Creston and the City of Nelson, with the villages of Slocan, Kaslo, Salmo and many smaller, rural communities dotted in between.
