Training Coordinator – Emergency Services & Security

Reports to: Manager – ES&S; (Dotted Line to Security/Fire Chief)

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Location: Hamilton Works and Lake Erie Works

Salary Range: Base salary starting at $95,000; actual salary will be commensurate with experience

The Emergency Services & Security Department provides Security, Fire Inspection/Maintenance, Pass Control, Truck Scales services and additional support to operations by providing confined space stand-by, switchboard services and Medical department coverage during off shifts. In addition, the department acts as the Emergency Response Team, trained to respond to and manage emergencies including Fire Fighting, Confined Space Rescue, High Angle Rope Rescue, Hazmat, Auto Extrication, Elevator Rescue and Emergency Medical Services.

Your day-to-day:

- Provide weekly training and implement current Fire and Security curriculum.
- Generate, file and maintain training reports and employee training records for in-house and external training.
- Audit training sessions and follow up with trainees who do not achieve the required standard.
- Provide training on specific topics and create lesson plans.




- Organize training programs with outside vendors and ensure certifications remain valid.
- Ensure Security Licences are kept valid.
- Provide “train the trainer” courses to ensure instructors have the correct knowledge and deliver curriculum effectively. Remove Train the Trainer and put training courses
- Ensure all safety contacts are signed off and entered into the safety system.
- Coordinate mill evacuations.
- Coordinate and plan quarterly simulations, including table-top and full exercises, ensuring E2 simulations are completed.
- Instruct New Employee Orientation classes.
- Provide or organize training for mill personnel, including Fire Extinguisher, Hot Work and SCBA training.
- Maintain driver’s licence records on file and update annually.
- Provide support during emergency calls.
- Participate in the rotating on-call schedule for Emergency Services and Security.

What you bring to the table

Job Qualifications:

- College diploma or university degree, preferably related to Law, Security, Police Foundations or Pre-Service Firefighter NFPA 1001 Level 1, 2, Hazmat Ops and Tech (NFPA 470/1072)
- Work experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
- 5+ years of security experience, including access control, investigations, surveillance and loss prevention.
- Fire prevention experience, including suppression, inspections and repairs of sprinkler systems, fire alarms and fire extinguishers.
- Extensive safety training.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.




- Computer skills.
- Mechanical background would be considered an asset.
- Experience as a volunteer firefighter, industrial firefighter, medical first responder, hazardous material technician or rope rescue technician would be considered an asset.
- Ontario Security and/or Private Investigator licence would be considered an asset.
- Class D, F or Z licence would be considered an asset.
- Fire Instructor 1 – NFPA 1041 would be an asset

- Firefighting NFPA 600/1081 Industrial Fire Fighter.
- Emergency Medical Responder.
- Hazmat Ops/Tech level NFPA 472/ 1072
- Incident Command.
- Confined Space and High Angle Rope Rescue NFPA 1007 / 1607.
- Incident Safety Officer.
- Elevator Rescue.
- Auto Extrication.
- Breath and Alcohol, POCT.
- Security Guard Licence.
- DZ Licence.

Your work environment:

- A mix of office and heavy manufacturing environments.
- Heavy industrial environment requiring work within various areas of the facility.
