Together Against Poverty Society is hiring a full-time, permanent position for a Volunteer Coordinator located in our Victoria office. The deadline for applications is Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Based in Victoria on the territory of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) peoples, TAPS is one of the largest anti-poverty organizations on Vancouver Island. TAPS specializes in face-to-face legal advocacy services. Through our work, we seek to have a positive impact on people's lives in ways that honour and promote human rights, justice, and a healthy, sustainable community.

(Nature of the Position)

The primary job responsibilities for this position are as follows:

- Coordinate and schedule appointments for the volunteers of our Volunteer Disability Advocacy Program, who support individuals with the provincial application for disability perks (PWD);
- Recruit and train new volunteers for the program, and assist with the work of volunteers as they help clients complete their PWD application.
- Work with medical professionals to facilitate access for our clients for completion of the parts of the PWD application which require medical assessment.
- Provide public legal education in the area of disability rights and benefits;
- Facilitate volunteer appreciation initiatives and events as required;
- On occasion draft literary pieces for our newsletter Taproot and our website, and in consultation with management help with the drafting of press releases and communications relating to your work;
- Maintain records and statistics for reporting to funders about the program; and,




- Assist the rest of staff with the general duties of the office, which are shared by all staff (for example: kitchen cleanliness, front desk cover, TAPS fundraising events).

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education, and Skills

There are no essential qualifications applicants must have for this position, but applicants must be able to work one evening shift a week (11-7) to accommodate the evening hours of our program. The following are assets for the position which will be considered in the hiring process:

- Experience working with or coordinating volunteers;
- Effective written and oral communication skills;
- Knowledge about the application process for provincial disability benefits, and/or lived experience with disability;
- General computer competency; and
- Strong organizational skills.

Hours of Work and Compensation​

​This position is full-time (5 days/week or 35 hours/week). TAPS staff are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 374, and this position is covered by the TAPS Collective Agreement.

Under the TAPS collective agreement, this position pays $34.75/hr, with a six-month probationary period. Employees work a 7-hour work day with an unpaid 1-hr lunch and paid breaks. TAPS is open from 9-4, and closed from 12-1 for lunch. Start and end time of the work day are flexible as long as the open office hours are covered,



with one day a week being an evening shift to cover extended hours of the program (11-7).

Start Date and Duration of Position The start date for the position is as soon as possible. The position is permanent and has no determined end date.

Sick/Vacation Time

Full-time staff are given 15 paid sick days and 20 paid vacation days annually, in addition to a 4-day paid winter holiday closure, and a 4-day paid summer holiday closure.
