Department: Child & Adolescent Mental Health UnitInitial competition is now closed.We are continuing to accept applications until a candidate is selected.The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit (CAMHU) is a six bed crisis unit, providing brief admissions to children and adolescents with serious mental health problems. Support is provided by an interdisciplinary team with an emphasis on skills building and community integration.QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge
Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) certificate is required (within the last twelve months)Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an assetMinimum (1-2 years) acute care and mental health experience dealing with paediatric patients and families, in an active care setting (within 2-3 years) requiredKnowledge of Child and Adolescent Systems of Care such as CAS and school systems requiredExperience with suicide safety planning for children, adolescents and their families requiredKnowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.G. Health Disciplines Act, College of Nurses standards, Mental Health Act, Family Centered Care, etc. requiredDemonstrated ability to provide commitment to Family Centered Care requiredDemonstrated ability to complete Mental Status Exams and provision of crisis management requiredExperience with suicide safety planning for children, adolescents and their families requiredExperience in evidence based management of severe and complex child and adolescent disorders an assetSkills/Abilities

regional support services and community partners requiredAbility to provide health teaching to individuals and groups requiredMust be committed to continuing education on an annual basis and demonstrate commitment to quality improvement requiredAbility to effectively assume a leadership role as a collaborative member of the health team requiredAbility to assume responsibility for patient care in a total patient care climate requiredAble to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to all patients requiredAbility to problem-solve and function in fast-paced environment requiredExcellent demonstrated assessment, critical thinking and intervention skills requiredMust demonstrate basic computer knowledgeMust demonstrate commitment to ensure personal safety, safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitorsAbility to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events requiredMust demonstrate good attendance and work recordBilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.
