Migrant Workers Centre is seeking a committed Staff Lawyer to support agricultural migrant workers in the Okanagan region. This role involves offering full representation and summary legal advice focused on immigration and employment law, addressing barriers faced by these workers. Additionally, engage in systemic advocacy, community collaboration, and public legal education to elevate the rights and living conditions of migrant workers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide summary legal advice on immigration and employment law • Collaborate with Intake Manager to assess migrant worker needs • Advocate for policy reform by attending Advocacy Committee meetings • Publish updates on legal and policy developments affecting workers • Generate reports and statistical data for funder requirements
Requirements: • Member or eligible for membership of the Law Society of BC • Minimum two years' experience in immigration or employment law • Knowledge of barriers faced by migrant agricultural workers • Solid communication skills in English; Spanish is a plus • Ability to work with diverse cultural communities
