AREA: Clinical Services CLASSIFICATION: Physiotherapist LOCATION Flexible within the Western Region of Nova Scotia

POSITION SCOPE As a member of the newly formed Western Region Disability Support Outreach Team (DSOT), a key Remedy initiative, the Physiotherapist will support Disability Support Program (DSP) participants who require specialized allied health services to transition from large facilities to residences in the community and/or to achieve their other goals. As time allows, the Physiotherapist will also provide physiotherapy services to clients of CORE Support Services. This includes adults and youth in the Community Options program, and clients still living in the large facility.

The Physiotherapist reports to the Director of Clinical Services at CORE Support Services and provides physiotherapy services to a diverse clientele of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, mental health challenges, and complex behavioural issues. As an integral member of an interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals, the Physiotherapist is responsible for providing physiotherapy assessment, therapeutic interventions, preventative approaches, and education related to assisting referred clients to maintain and/or regain optimal levels of movement, activity, and function. The position shares a full-time OTA/PTA with the Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologist.

Members of the Disability Support Outreach Team work in conjunction with the Allied Health leaders at the Department of Opportunities and Social Development (DOSD) and with DOSD employees attached to the Regional Hub, including the

Intense Planning and Support Coordinators (IPSCs). This Physiotherapy position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to support clients who will be transitioning from facility-based living to smaller residences.





Given the nature of the role and the requirement for travel throughout the Western Region, there is flexibility with respect to location. Travel to Core Support Services in the Annapolis Valley will be required for initial onboarding, occasional meetings or training, and to see clients at that location on a referral basis, but the physiotherapist can reside anywhere in the Western Region and work remotely when not required to be on site. It is a Monday to Friday position, but there is some flexibility with work hours, as well.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited university program in Physiotherapy

A full practicing license from the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists/ eligibility to obtain a Physiotherapy license

Broad knowledge of general physiotherapy practice and the ability to meet diverse needs

Experience in the assessment and treatment of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, dual diagnosis (IDD + mental illness), autism, emotional issues, and/or behaviors of concern an asset

Commitment to ethical, evidence-based, trauma informed practice and to upholding the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities

Eagerness to be part of a historically significant change in the way people with disabilities are supported in the province

Demonstrated commitment to the values inherent in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)
