Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our team and ensure the well-being and comfort of our animals. This role is vital in maintaining a clean, protected, and caring environment for pets and providing excellent customer service to pet owners. The ideal candidate is compassionate, reliable, and capable of handling physically demanding tasks with a positive attitude.
Duties
Assist with daily cleaning and sanitation of kennels, cages, and common areas to uphold hygiene standards
Feed and water animals according to established schedules and protocols
Monitor animals for signs of illness or distress and report concerns to veterinary staff or management
Keep a detailed account of animal health and wellbeing
Provide compassionate care, including walking, socializing, and comforting animals as needed
Assist pet owners with check-in and check-out processes, answering questions about animal care both in person and over the phone
Perform heavy lifting when necessary, such as moving supplies or assisting with larger animals
Maintain organized storage of supplies and ensure all equipment is in good working order
Support team members in emergency situations or when handling difficult animals
Requirements
Prior experience in customer service or animal care is preferred but not required; training will be provided
Applicants must have a driver's license and access to a vehicle as we are located outside of city bus routes
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively
Compassionate attitude towards animals and pet owners alike
Strong work ethic with attention to detail and cleanliness
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift
Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends if needed
