DISTRICT OF SAANICH PLANNING DEPARTMENT CURRENT PLANNING Planning Technician

1 Temporary Full-Time Position - Up to 18 Months

Current Planning plays a key role in helping residents, applicants, and the development community navigate land-use and development processes with clarity, consistency, and care. Seeking an experienced and service-oriented Planning Technician to join the Current Planning team at Municipal Hall, the successful candidate will bring sound technical planning knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. In this role, you will review and process documentation supporting rezoning, development permit, development variance permit, subdivision, Board of Variance, business licence, sign permit, and building permit applications. You will assess building permit applications for compliance with the Zoning Bylaw and approved development plans; respond to planning, zoning, and subdivision enquiries; liaise with applicants, design professionals, staff, and the public; conduct research and analysis; prepare correspondence, background materials, and routine reports; support mapping and graphic components of planning reports and studies; and complete on-site assessments to confirm compliance with approved plans. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in Planning or a related discipline such as geography, architecture,



civil engineering, or landscape architecture, together with three years of experience in a municipal planning office environment, including development and subdivision approval procedures. Proficiency with design programs, including AutoCAD, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other 3D modelling software, as well as experience and training in GIS and statistical analysis, are required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week). As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $47.40 per hour (2026 rate) with an excellent benefits package.
