Job Title: Journeyman Electrician – Afternoon Shift Job Description
This project-based role offers an experienced commercial or industrial electrician the opportunity to work on a large-scale, high-profile data center in Rocky View County, Alberta. You will perform commercial and light industrial electrical construction tasks in an active jobsite setting, focusing on installations, troubleshooting, and equipment connections. This is not an entry-level position and requires strong hands-on experience, the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, and confidence in busy construction settings. The position is based in Calgary’s northeast and operates on premium afternoon shifts with regular opportunities for overtime on evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
Perform commercial and light industrial electrical work on a large data center construction project, including installations, equipment connections, cable pulling, distribution, lighting, and general electrical construction tasks.
Read and interpret electrical blueprints and drawings to plan and execute wiring, conduit runs, and installations accurately.
Install, bend, and run conduit (including cable tray systems) to specification, ensuring proper cable management and compliance with electrical codes and site standards.
Carry out electrical wiring tasks, including low-voltage work, ensuring all connections are safe, organized, and meet applicable standards.
Troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment, diagnose issues, and implement effective solutions to maintain safe and reliable operations on site.
Support and, where required, lead or direct a crew, providing guidance, coordination, and assistance to apprentices and other team members.
Work efficiently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality workmanship and meeting project timelines.
Follow all site safety procedures and safe work practices, including the proper use of fall protection, elevated work platforms, and other safety equipment.
Communicate clearly in English with supervisors, coworkers, and other trades to coordinate tasks, follow site instructions, and ensure safe operations.
Maintain reliable transportation to and from the site and arrive on time for afternoon shifts and any scheduled weekend work.
Participate in project-based work with the flexibility to take on premium shift opportunities and requested overtime as project needs arise.
Essential Skills
Robust commercial or industrial electrical experience in active construction or industrial-style environments.
Journeyperson Electrician status preferred, with higher-level apprentices (2nd, 3rd, or 4th year) considered.
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Leadership experience or the ability to support and direct a crew on a busy construction site.
Strong English communication skills for safety discussions, coordination with other trades, and following site instructions.
Solid understanding of protected work practices, site procedures, and adherence to occupational health and safety requirements.
Hands‑on experience with installations, troubleshooting, equipment connections, cable pulling, distribution systems, lighting, and general electrical construction tasks.
Proficiency in conduit bending, running conduit, and working with cable tray and cable management systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and apply them to new construction electrical work.
Reliable transportation to the job site in Rocky View County / Calgary NE.
Valid electrical apprenticeship or Journeyperson certification preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
CSTS certification.
WHMIS certification.
Fall Protection certification.
Elevated Work Platform / Aerial Lift certification considered an asset.
Experience in commercial construction and new construction environments.
Experience with low-voltage electrical work.
Comfort working on large commercial/industrial projects, including data centers.
Willingness to work afternoon shifts and regularly available weekends.
Ability to manage long project durations with consistent performance over 18+ months.

Work Workplace
This role is based on an afternoon shift schedule from Monday to Friday, typically running from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with weekends regularly available and often requested for additional work. You will work on a large commercial and industrial construction site in Rocky View County, within a high-density data center environment. The job involves active construction conditions, including working at heights, using elevated work platforms, and performing physically demanding tasks such as bending conduit, pulling wire, and managing cable trays. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with established site procedures and standards. Work is project-based with premium afternoon shift rates and regular opportunities for overtime, making it suitable for those who prefer extended shifts and a busy, hands‑on construction setting. Appropriate construction attire and personal protective equipment are required in line with site safety policies.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $50.40/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
