The Opportunity As a Power System Engineer, you will support the initial definition and electrical specification of main circuit equipment used in HVDC converter stations and associated yards, from the tender phase through project execution. You will contribute to activities such as initial studies, single line drawings, basic calculations, reliability, availability and maintainability studies, rating studies, and the definition of concepts for control and protection design within HVDC systems. The role involves interpreting customer requirements and translating them into engineering drawings and technical requirements for cross‑functional engineering teams. You will participate in project meetings, present engineering‑related topics, and collaborate with professionals across projects and disciplines. Through the development and execution of HVDC infrastructure, you will contribute to the performance, reliability, and ongoing advancement of power transmission systems.
How You’ll Make an Impact Define electrical specifications for main circuit equipment in HVDC converter stations.
Provide technical support for tenders and project execution activities.
Perform initial studies, develop single line drawings, and complete basic calculations.
Interpret customer specifications and translate requirements into engineering documentation.
Coordinate technical requirements with engineering teams interfacing with the Main Circuit Design department.
Participate in project meetings and present engineering assignment topics.
Maintain professional engineering networks and share engineering best practices across projects and disciplines.
Support reliability, availability, maintainability, rating, control, protection, and HVDC system development activities.
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Your Background Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada
Bachelor’s or MSc degree in Electric Power Engineering or a related field.
2+ years of experience with the design and specification of high voltage equipment.
Experience working with high voltage equipment or performing studies related to the rating of high voltage equipment.
Ability to work within an international and multicultural environment and translate customer requirements into engineering deliverables.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
French language capability is an asset.
