Role Description: The Behavioural Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Edmonton and Barrhead. This role involves assessing children’s behavioural and emotional needs, observing family interactions during supervised visitation, and developing individualized behaviour support plans that promote safety and positive engagement.

The Behavioural

Specialist will coach parents and caregivers on effective strategies for communication, regulation, and conflict management, and will provide ongoing guidance to encourage constructive, age-appropriate interactions. Day-to-day responsibilities include documentation of observations, preparing progress reports,



collaborating with internal team members and external service providers, and participating in case planning meetings. The role also involves contributing to program development, supporting crisis intervention when needed, and ensuring all practices align with organizational policies and trauma-informed, family-centred care.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in behavioural assessment, behaviour support planning, and intervention design for children and families.
- Experience with trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, and crisis de-escalation in family or child-focused settings.
- Competence in relationship-building, active listening, and coaching parents and caregivers through emotionally challenging situations.
- Ability to maintain clear, objective documentation, prepare concise reports, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of child development, family systems, and relevant community resources and support services.
- Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, child and youth care, or a related human services field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience working with children and families involved in supervised visitation, child welfare, or similar programs is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work on-site, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing family needs and program priorities.
- Transparent criminal record check and child intervention check, in accordance with applicable regulations.
