About UsFamilies of Alberta for Conductive Education (FACE) is a registered Canadian charity that provides programming inspired by the principles of Conductive Education for children and young adults with neuromotor conditions such as cerebral palsy, stroke, acquired brain injury, and others. We help promote independence, skill development, and confidence.

Position OverviewThis is an unpaid educational volunteer placement designed to provide meaningful learning, training, and documented volunteer hours.

We are seeking high-energy, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with children and young adults and are willing to learn about Conductive Education.

As a Conductive Education Intern, you'll gain hands-on, resume-building experience and specialized training related to your discipline in a holistic therapy environment. You'll work one-on-one with participants and follow along with group programming under the guidance of a Conductor or Program Leader.

Sessions may include sitting and lying exercises, fine motor activities, individualized goals, life skills, recreation, communication, and group activities.

- General volunteers passionate about working in the disability, therapy, and rehabilitation fields

What You'll Do
- Support participants with moderate to complex neuromotor needs in completing designated exercises, activities, and individual goals
- Work scheduled shifts within FACE's weekday, evening, and Saturday programming
- Collaborate with trained professionals, including Conductors, Program Leaders, and FACE staff, to enhance your understanding of human development and participant support
- Participate in training sessions, check-ins, and performance reviews
- Assist in lifts and transfers with team members
- Participate in group activities, including singing, games, recreation, and social activities, to create an upbeat and engaging workplace




- Set up program equipment and maintain clean and organized program spaces before and after programming
- Assist with personal care as needed, including bathroom support, diaper changes, feeding, changing, and cleaning accidents

Internship AvailabilityInterns complete approximately 12 hours per week using a combination of available FACE program shifts. Monday–Friday:

- 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
- 12:00 PM–3:00 PM
- 4:00 PM–8:00 PM

Saturday:

- 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
- 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Scheduling is flexible across available daytime, evening, and Saturday shifts and will be arranged based on intern availability, FACE program needs, and supervisor approval. A typical 12-hour week may include four 3-hour shifts or three 4-hour evening shifts.

What You'll Learn & Gain

- Hands-on experience supporting participants with cerebral palsy and other neuromotor conditions
- Exposure to Conductive Education and its holistic approach to therapy, development, and skill-building
- Practical experience in gross and fine motor skill development, behaviour support, group facilitation, and participant engagement
- Introduction to Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) tools and strategies
- Specialized, field-specific training tailored to your area of interest, such as AAC, behaviour support, motor development, recreation, or participant support
- Certificate of completion at the end of your internship term
- Personalized reference/recommendation letter highlighting your contributions
- Documented volunteer hours toward academic and professional applications
- Reimbursement of your Vulnerable Sector Check upon successful completion of the required internship hours

Internship CommitmentThe FACE Conductive Education Internship is structured as a 14-week placement.

Total: 168 hours

Duration: 14 active weeks

Commitment: Approximately 12 hours per week

Interns are expected to complete the full 168-hour placement to successfully complete the internship.

Requirements
- No prior experience necessary — full training and guidance are provided
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with physical care tasks
- Must complete a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Verification before the start date
- Must commit to the full 14-week / 168-hour placement
- Must be reliable, punctual, and maintain professional communication
- Must be comfortable participating in singing and group activities
- Must follow FACE policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and staff direction
