Director of Sales – Full-Service HotelSalary: $75,000–$90,000 per year + performance-based incentive opportunity
About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced hotel sales qualified to lead the sales strategy and business development efforts for our full-service hotel in Calgary.
Previous hotel sales experience is required.
This is not a general sales position. The Director of Sales will be responsible for driving rooms and Meetings & Events revenue, growing key accounts, developing new business, and leading the sales team to achieve and exceed budgeted revenue goals.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on hotel sales leader who knows how to prospect, build relationships, close business, understand hotel revenue, and hold a team accountable for results.
What You Will DoSales &
- Business Development
- Own and execute the hotel's sales strategy to achieve and exceed annual revenue targets.
- Develop new business across corporate, group, Meetings & • Events, leisure, government, sports, and other key market segments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key corporate accounts, meeting planners, travel partners, and industry contacts.
- Personally conduct sales calls, prospecting, client appointments, networking, trade shows, and hotel site inspections.
- Identify opportunities to increase market share and generate new revenue.
- Develop strategies to convert lost business and target accounts currently doing business with competitors.
- Negotiate contracts and rates while balancing client needs with hotel profitability.
- Maintain a strong presence in the Calgary business and hospitality community.
Meetings & • Events
- Drive group and Meetings & • Events business from initial prospecting through conversion.
- Work closely with Events, Food & • Beverage, and Operations to ensure business sold is successfully executed.
- Build relationships with meeting planners, corporate clients, event organizers, and local organizations.
- Participate in client meetings, site inspections, pre-conference meetings, and post-event follow-up.
- Identify opportunities to increase room nights, meeting space utilization, and catering revenue.
Revenue & • Business Strategy
- Work closely with the General Manager and Revenue Management team to maximize hotel revenue and profitability.
- Understand and utilize hotel performance metrics including occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, pace, pickup, need dates, and group displacement.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and business opportunities.
- Review sales production and market segment performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Participate in forecasting, budgeting, and business planning.
- Make commercially sound decisions regarding accounts, rates, group opportunities, and hotel inventory.
Leadership & • Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the hotel's sales team.
- Set clear sales targets and expectations and hold the team accountable for results.
- Conduct regular sales meetings, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
- Develop the team's prospecting, closing, and account management skills.
- Create a sales culture focused on accountability, activity, teamwork, and results.
- Lead by example and remain actively involved in selling.
Financial & • Administrative
- Achieve annual room, group, Meetings & • Events, catering, and overall hotel revenue goals.
- Prepare and manage sales budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor departmental expenses and ensure resources are used effectively.
- Maintain accurate account information and sales activity in the hotel's CRM system.
- Prepare regular sales reports and business reviews.
- Analyze sales results and identify opportunities for improvement.
Who We're Looking ForWe are looking for a proven hotel sales leader, not a general sales professional looking to move into hospitality. Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive hotel sales experience.
- Experience in a hotel sales leadership or management role.
- Proven experience generating corporate, group, and Meetings & Events business.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve or exceed sales and revenue targets.
- Strong understanding of hotel operations and how sales decisions impact the overall hotel.
- Working knowledge of hotel revenue management, forecasting, ADR, occupancy, and group pricing.
- Strong negotiation and closing skills.
- Experience coaching and leading a sales team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally for client meetings and networking.
Strong Assets
- Previous Director of Sales or Assistant Director of Sales experience.
- Full-service hotel experience.
- Existing Calgary corporate and Meetings & Events contacts.
- Hilton experience.
- Experience with major hotel PMS, CRM, and sales systems.
