Campus Saint-Jean is a multidisciplinary French-language faculty of the University of Alberta which is committed to excellence through integrating learning, discovery, and community involvement. The campus offers university and college programs entirely in French and supports francophone and francophile students in their academic journey. As part of this mission, the École de langues provides English‑language upgrading courses (non‑credit) to help students meet UofA’s English proficiency requirements.

Role Description In order to be able to graduate from UofA, students need to demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of English. Some of the francophone students at Campus Saint-Jean need to improve their English with those ESL classes - they are not credited courses.

We are seeking an ESL Instructor to teach an on‑site hybrid, non‑credit English course for francophone students. The instructor will deliver engaging lessons, support learners’ progress,



and help them build the language skills required to succeed in their academic programs.

This contract covers 70 hours of teaching, delivered over the Fall term at a rate of 5 hours per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14:00 to 16:30.

- creating a supportive and immersive English‑learning setting,
- adapting instruction to francophone learners,
- preparing lessons aligned with second‑language acquisition principles,
- contributing to student success and retention.

Qualifications

- English Teaching and Teaching English as a Foreign Language skills
- Experience in lesson planning and test preparation
- Strong teaching skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of second language acquisition principles
- TESL/TEFL certification or relevant teaching qualifications
- Experience working with diverse student populations

- Possibility of future contracts or expanded teaching opportunities.
