EHS Coordinator

Location: Keele Street and Highway 7 / CMI sites

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience

About the Role The EHS Coordinator provides hands-on support to the Environmental, Health and Safety team, site leadership, and employees across CMI locations. This role assists with inspections, audits, training, documentation, incident follow-up, and day-to-day safety program activities to help maintain compliant, and safe workplaces.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with new hire, returning employee, visitor, and contractor safety orientation at assigned sites.
- Participate in site Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and support follow-up on action items, escalating questions or concerns to the Senior EHS Specialist as required.
- Complete routine workplace inspections, observations, and monthly site audits using CMI tools and checklists.
- Support supervisors and employees by identifying hazards, documenting findings, and following up on corrective actions assigned to site leadership.
- Assist with audits and maintenance of the EHS Management System, including ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 program elements where applicable.
- Support a positive safety culture by maintaining a visible field presence and encouraging employees to report hazards, near misses, and improvement opportunities.
- Assist with implementation, maintenance, and communication of CMI Management System requirements, forms, work instructions, and safe operating procedures.
- Prepare, coordinate, and deliver routine safety talks, refresher training, and awareness sessions as scheduled by the EHS team.
- Review, update, and maintain assigned EHS documents, including inspection forms, training records, procedures, and corrective action logs.
- Enter and maintain EHS system data accurately, including inspections, training records, incidents, corrective actions, and site visit reports.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with our customers; including,



but not limited to our employees and the Leadership team.
- Work with integrity and maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times
- Provide a high level of customer service with solution-based employee relations and safety program solutions; be aware of the balance between safety and production as well as the demands at site level
- Constantly challenge the current methods and techniques in a controlled manner that will provide for a superior, more efficient, and improved result in all we do.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of legislative changes that are upcoming in order to pro-actively begin revising, developing and implementing procedures

What You Bring to the Role:

- Post secondary education in EHS and/or equivalent applicable experience
- 1-3 years of related EHS experience preferably with operations, manufacturing, logistics, construction, or heavy industrial experience.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations; willingness to continue building legislative and technical knowledge.
- Experience with EHS Management Systems is considered an asset
- JHSC Certification and related safety training is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and ability to travel between CMI sites.
- Good English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with employees, supervisors, and leadership.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and safety or training tracking systems.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
- Customer-service oriented with tact, judgement, curiosity,



and a willingness to learn in a field-based safety role.
- Ability to identify hazards, ask effective questions, follow direction, and support continuous improvement of CMI safety programs.

Working Conditions while performing the job:

- Work is performed in scrap metal recycling and heavy industrial environments, including exposure to mobile equipment, processing equipment, noise, dust, heat, cold, and outdoor conditions.
- Regular site travel is required from a home base at Keele Street and Highway 7 or another assigned CMI location.
- Use of required personal protective equipment is mandatory while working in operational areas.
- Must be comfortable balancing field work, documentation, training support, and time-sensitive operational requests all with a sense of urgency.
