The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a versatile working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. In compliance with Board policies and procedures is responsible for assisting in the implementation, training and daily operation of the automated dispatch absence tracking system (STAR System), including the daily middleware error reports and testing all program(s) upgrades/changes.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

- To create and develop middleware programs including research, writing specs, creating tests cases and testing programs in relation to changes in the collective agreements and program enhancements/upgrades.
- To assist in analyzing and rectifying errors, including those identified by nightly middleware programs and STAR system entries by employees.
- To assist in the development, maintenance, and delivery of training sessions for STAR system users, including Secretaries, casual Educational Assistants, casual Designated Early Childhood Educators, casual Clerical, and Occasional Teachers.
- To respond to STAR system queries via email and phone as required.
- To assist and support employees by providing system training and documentation including on-going problem support.
- To create and maintain all Preferred Lists in the STAR system.
- To be responsible for the Hours of Operation process which entails tracking the submissions and documenting the changes on a master spreadsheet.
- To adjust and correct STAR System already verified absence entries.
- To assist with the development of user training and support documents in the use of STAR.
- To perform other duties as assigned.

Line of Responsibility: Responsible to the Supervisor, STAR Team Education, Experience And Qualifications

- A two-year college diploma in human resources management or a related discipline is required.
- Minimum one year experience with use of human resources software programs or related experience is required.
- Knowledge of the development and testing of software programs is an asset.
- Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service and computer skills including HRIS are required.

LEADERSHIP

- Supervision and people management is not an expectation of this role.
- Responsible for sharing skills and educating Board staff as it relates to STAR System processes and procedures. Provides regular training sessions to ensure proper application and reduce errors.
- Engages with multiple departments including IT, Payroll, Facility Services and Human Resource Services as it relates to Star System operations and programming changes.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.

ACCOUNTABILITY & DECISION MAKING

- Accountable for ensuring that system programs are working as intended and all system needs are met.
- Accountable for preparing, providing,



and presenting training documentation to system users.
- Resolves errors and/or issues that arise with the middleware software.
- Responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the middleware program and STAR System Operations.
- Decisions made can have an impact on Star System operations and multiple departments including IT, Human Resource Services, Facility Services, and Payroll. Risks include incorrect employee compensation, inaccurate sick leave balances, and errors within the middleware software.

Important Information For CUPE 1734 Members

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.

CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered to have the required educational qualifications based on the for the CUPE 1734 classification they currently hold on a permanent basis, in accordance with the terms of the CUPE 1734 Collective Agreement.
