Responsibilities Reporting to the Electrical and Automation Engineering Lead, the Automation Engineer is responsible for configuring, updating, maintaining, administrating and the security of the following systems: distributed control system, supervisory control and data acquisition system, safety shutdown system, human machine interfaces, assorted programmable logic controllers, and the Ethernet process control network infrastructure.
This includes all ancillary systems (such as data historian, domain controllers).
Ensure the control systems are operating with full availability.
Leverage planned/unplanned maintenance windows.
Ensure systems are meeting needs of operators Provide technical guidance for Control/Automation Group Technologists/Technicians Design/implementation of capital and alteration work involving the Yara control systems in accordance with management of change procedures, including updating documentation.
Maintain and troubleshoot the control and safety system hardware and software.
Install bypasses on systems, in coordination with operations, in abnormal operating conditions.
Provide technical support and information regarding the control system to other departments.
Analyse process data and event histories to provide sequence of events and trip first-out information to determine root causes of abnormal operating conditions, equipment failure, and to propose changes to prevent these incidents from recurring.
Ensure that process safety has been considered/ accounted for prior to making control system changes.
Maintain technical expertise in the state-of-the-art technology for control systems.
Provide support for the IT Controls Technician to ensure the process control network is secure & complies with best practice.
Contribute to plant HAZOP analysis and SIL calculations with the Process Safety Group Maintain a system road map based on upcoming obsolescence and other vulnerabilities Develop and execute capital-funded control system migration projects that ensure continued high performance and robust security Education, Experience & Skill The successful candidate will possess a bachelors degree in engineering in a field related to industrial control systems eg) Electrical, Electronic Systems etc At least 5 years of related experience is preferred Eligibility for registration with APEGS as a P.
Eng. is required Familiarity with Honeywell Experion DCS, Triconex SIS, Modbus communication, HAZOP and TCP-IP networking and security are assets.
Familiarity in an industrial plant setting is preferred.
