Job Overview

Our Fort McMurray Field Services department is looking to add a 2nd or 3rd year Machinist apprentice to their team!! This role will work in the Shop, but will support the field team with their machining needs. We're looking for curious minds, eager learners,



and future leaders- if you're passionate about developing new skills, tackling hands-on challenges, and growing your career with a team that invests in your success, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for!

Reports to: Supervisor, Field Services
Shift: 7x7; Wednesday to Tuesday, rotation of days and nights
Allowances: Additional premiums and allowances are associated with this position due to location
Safety Sensitive: Yes
Travel: up to 25% potentially across Canada and the USA
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation

Key Job Responsibilities

- Assist in machining, repairing, and rebuilding heavy equipment components
- Learn to measure dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
- Prepare materials and components for machining operations
- Support inspection and quality control activities to ensure components meet specifications
- Assist with equipment setup, maintenance, and cleaning

Qualifications/Requirements

- Registered as a 2nd or 3rd Year Machinist Apprentice
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong mechanical aptitude with an interest in precision machining
- Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to safely use hand tools and basic measuring equipment
- Willingness to travel occasionally as operational requirements dictate
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to meet all physical job requirements: able to lift 50 lbs. safely, climb and work at heights and in confined spaces as needed

Additional Information

The successful candidate must register as an apprentice with the applicable provincial apprenticeship authority within six (6) weeks of commencing employment, if not already registered. As a condition of employment, the employee must maintain active apprenticeship status and be willing and able to attend all required technical training and successfully progress through each level of the apprenticeship program until achieving Journeyperson certification.
