We are looking for a Product Developer to join our dynamic team at Trophy Foods. This position is for an existing vacancy and offers the opportunity to:

Overview: The Product Developer will lead the development and commercialization of proprietary food products from concept through launch. Working under the guidance of the Product Development Manager, the incumbent will work with customer recipes and requests to create unique products and generate samples using a controlled and well-documented development process.

The Product

Developer will manage multiple development projects with little to no supervision, formulate products to meet customer and business objectives, and coordinate plant trials and first production runs. The role requires a hands-on approach and end-to-end ownership of assigned development work.

The role collaborates cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Procurement, Material Planning, Packaging, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Finance, and external partners to ensure successful product implementation. Additional areas of focus include ingredient evaluations, nutritional analysis, regulatory compliance, specification development, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Product

Developer will also contribute to innovation initiatives and support the development of repeatable, scalable product solutions.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Develop and reformulate products to meet targets for sensory attributes, nutrition, quality, cost, timeline, plant scalability, and customer expectations.




- Independently manage product development projects from concept through commercialization with minimal supervision.
- Lead plant trials, coordinate first production runs, develop manufacturing procedures, and troubleshoot production challenges to ensure successful scale-up and implementation.
- Create and maintain detailed, comprehensive records of formulations, process parameters, finished product results, ingredient specifications, nutritional information, and disposition of final product.
- Conduct hands-on product testing, evaluation, sample preparation, and benchmarking activities.
- Own end-to-end product development activities, including weighing and preparing ingredients, hands-on lab work, sample preparation and presentation, maintaining an organized work area, cleaning lab equipment after use, and supporting lab inventory and general lab upkeep.
- Collaborate with Procurement and Material Planning to source and evaluate ingredients, identify supply or commercialization risks, troubleshoot technical challenges, and identify innovative solutions.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including Sales, Operations, Procurement, Material Planning, Packaging, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, and Finance to support project execution and commercialization activities.
- Support customer interactions related to product development, including technical discussions, sample presentations, and product modifications.
- Input and maintain product formulations within Genesis or similar nutritional software, as required, to validate nutritional data and support product development and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor food industry trends, emerging technologies, competitor activity, and consumer insights to support innovation initiatives.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects related to products, processes, cost optimization, and operational efficiencies.
- Support specification development, label reviews, and compliance with Canadian and U.S. food regulations.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to Product Development Technologists and junior team members where applicable.
- Support internal and external audits, product investigations, and commercialization documentation as required.

Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related discipline. A Master’s degree in Food Science or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of product development or research and development experience within the food manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of food product manufacturing and ingredient functionality, including an understanding of water activity, moisture, packaging, storage, and distribution.




- Experience working with an ERP system such as JD Edwards (JDE), or a comparable system is considered an asset.
- Experience leading plant trials, scale-ups, and product commercialization activities.
- Strong understanding of food safety principles, regulatory requirements, and nutritional labeling. Experience with both Canadian and U.S. regulations is considered an asset.
- Industry experience within food manufacturing is required. Experience within snacks, bakery, confectionery, or related food categories would be considered an asset; nut-category experience is not required.
- Creativity and passion for food innovation and new product development.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent projects, changing priorities and timelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to consider both technical and operational feasibility.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and interact professionally with customers and suppliers.
- Robust ownership, follow-through and attention to detail.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience with Genesis or similar formulation/nutritional analysis software is considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, flexible environment and adapt as customer and business priorities change.
- Proactive, hands-on self-starter with a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and ownership.
- Open to new ideas, feedback, shared tools and processes, with a willingness to contribute to team organization and continuous improvement.
- Awareness of current food trends and the ability to translate trends and customer needs into practical product concepts.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively and taking responsibility for work from start to finish.
